NTL - Help - Laggy Connection on LIVE.

Plz help, my mate is on a NTL Cable connection 10Mb down load but he's causing mega lag on LIVE especially on CoD2.

If checks his Pings from the PC on a speed test site it comes back OK but whilst on LIVE he lags for instance on CoD 2 all our Pings are round 100 when he comes on his Ping is around 150-200 plus but more importantly when looking at his character on screen the lag is very bad. And all the rest of us are fine on simple BT line 1Mb connection.

NTL say nothing wrong with connection, M$ blame NTL and so he goes around in circles.

Plz note this problem has just arisen in the last couple of weeks but won't go away.

Has anybody got any ideas on what he can so.

His download speed is pretty much irrelevant.. make sure he's a decent upload speed and that there's no issues or packet loss with a trace route etc.

Online gaming is dependent on UDP packets and NTL will be able to monitor his network traffic if it's deemed really necessary.
Make sure he's not hosting the games too..

Just the usual suggestions. Make sure his PC is off while he's playing and nothing else is using the connection. If on a wireless connection check it out with a wired one and see if that helps.

thanks, his up load speed if definitely OK as per the various checkers, he's not hosting either. So really it's a case of getting NTL to monitor his network traffic to try and diagnose the fault??

Can you check on UDP packets loss from the 360 dashboard??? Like you could from the XBOX.

yeh we've been through these, I can't for the life of me think of anything else, his lag is really bad on say CoD2 and he's on the best connection too in terms of download / upload.

I'm on NTL's 2Mb & since the update to COD2 it plays like a knife through butter on LIVE. A hot knife at that!

Had exactly the same problem and had to downgrade back to 2mb due to NTL needing to upgrade their equipment.

Took me 10+ phone calls to NTL and eventually found the problem myself, which was poor bandwidth.

If you go to www.Numion.com and run a broadband test there, it tests download and upload together, testing your total bandwidth.

I found that when the upload was used, it killed my download!

I told Ntl about my findings and they downgraded me until they update there equipment.

Running 2mb connection is way better than the 10mb i tried.

This was over 2 months ago and i'm still waiting for the call that they've upgraded.

I wouldn't see the point in paying for a connection that does not work correctly!
