At long last. The code dropped must have happened overnight.

Awesome

My Upgrade occured when i switched the box on first thing this morning. Very irritating to be honest aws I had no TV for ~5 mimnutes or so.

Not using HDMI, I had never really notiuced the left shift, but I am glad it has been fixed.

Did not see any other obvious changes though

i probably wouldnt have noticed to be honest, didnt really bother me that much. the giveaway was that i left it switched on bbc1 when i fell asleep and when i woke it was on the help page. still doesnt say anything about 5.1 in the settings menu.

I wonder if it has coincided with any new HD content ?

Lack of DD in the menu sounds disappointing - but if that shift has been fixed, it's a step in the right direction

There is an option in the settings menu now "Output audio via optical" will be interesting to see if any programs are broadcast 5.1, all PCM stereo still at present.

i wonder if they have fixed the recording problem? only time will tell with that one. i only had it happen once to me but then again i dont nrecord that much.

they told me they were gonna reformat the drive about 2 weeks ago and it never happened, they must have been waiting for the firmware update.

About time too, what took them so long?! I had my £10 refunded by tw due to this fault as the black bar to the right could cause image retention on my plasma and therefore the tv drive box was rendered useless to me until they fixed this problem. I havent used the tv drive since installed.

Can't wait to get home and try it now! Hopefully mine will have been updated and fixed too.

I suspect tw lost a lot of money and customers due to this fault. I decided to stay with them as I suspected they'll get it fixed soon enough and you can forgive teething problems with new technology. If they hadn't fixed it before the start of the World Cup I was reluctantly going to go with Sky instead. Now I save myself £300 installation (a complete and utter taking advantage by Sky of those rich folk that can afford plasmas and have loads of spare cash in my opinion). They'll reduce it once they realise the extent of loss to TW and once all those rich folk have already signed up and the World Cup is finished.

I have to say Telewest customer services have been superb. No quibble refund and very nice with it. Well done (and for beating Sky to HD)! They should spend more on expanding their UK network coverage now so more people have the choice between cable and Sky. Better for all of us in the long run as competition will do no harm at all.

Just tried it (and after a slight problem where it didnt show bugger all and I had to reset back to component) it works perfectly, no image shift and no little black bar down each side.

Am intruiged to know how to get 5.1 sound - hope its for all Sky movies ( I dont have Sky movies at the present) although I tried the Disney Channel and this was still in Stereo - do all Disney channels broadcast in 5.1?

Any e-mails or notice from Telewest as to what this firmware update fixes exactly? I really need the PVR to record otherwise I don't see the point!?

Could be.

The optical output worked before this upgrade, and switching it on and off now doesn't seem to make any difference at all.

The telewest TV drive manual has refers to DD 5.1 within the HD section, from memory, which to me suggests that it will be available on the VOD Teleport HD section.

It would be nice if the current free stuff in the HD section also came with DD 5.1 (Pride, supervolcano etc), but maybe TW dont have the versions with that soundtrack, or maybe they weren't made with that soundtrack.

Also, Sky and TW seem to have DD hand-in-hand with HD in their marketing stuff, so maybe WHEN TW gets the Sky HD channels, they will come with DD 5.1.

Unfortunately for us TW users, it's all a theoretical discuccsion at the moment, until more content comes along...
