Would Telewest let me cancel my contract early?

I'm under contract with them until October, but will be moving to an area where Blueyonder isn't available in June. What would be the chances that they would let me off the hook?

Failing that, could I just cancel my direct debit and run away? Would they be able to catch up with me?

just be sneaky, ask them to put the account on hold and soon as its available in that area you'll go back to your contract quite happily because you luv dem :-)

if lucky they'll consider this and say go on then.......

if unlucky they'll say tuff and charge you however many months of your contract you have left....

you could run and hide, but if they catch up it'll be bailiffs who will simply take whatever they can from your house and not worry about actual money (if your unlucky...)

edit: mind you, might be worth reading your contract thoroughly.....there could well be a clause you can use where it will say something like 'if we are unable to provide a quality of service to you blah blah' then you might be able to use this to get out of it saying that youa re happy to continue using them, but somehow their service doesnt reach where you are which is their fault..........ok its a long shot, but ya never know ;-)

I think legally you are tied in. I (stupidly) signed up to AOL, and they state even if you can't receive it, you still have to pay for it.

Oh well, only 8 months to go!

if you cancel the DD you will be in default and they can put a debt collection agency on the case. Best to be upfront and approach them to see what they say.

The below is a lift from the telewest website:

If you are not transferring your services to your new address or if you are moving outside of our networked area, you will be required to pay for all services in accordance with the terms & conditions of your Telewest contract

Guess your stuck with it.

When I moved to a non-telewest area I asked for them to move the service to the new address, when they said they couldnt they cancelled the contract without charging me for the extra months subs - have done this twice now with the same result, but it was they who broke it not me saying I just didnt want it in the new property.

Cool, thanks for the info.

I think the plan is to try to reason with them like you said, and if they try to charge me I'll probably run off and cancel the DD.

Would the bailifs be likely to catch me?

no dont do that lol.
just ring em tell em ur moving next month and ud like to arrange to transfer all ur stuff, ur very happy etc!
give them an address u know cant get telewest (relatives, friends etc) and then wait for them to say "sorry we cant service that address" then say well what can i do?? i cant not move lol, let them go thru the motions from there.
if theyre thick just say well ill need to cancel my services then as im no longer at this address, can u keep me informed when services will be available at new address (truth be it never will if its not there allready)

dont just do one itl do ur credit no good, plus the hastle of getting "final warning" letters thru ur door for the next 3 years lol

Yes, it is very easy to trace someone if you have the necessary software/ database access (which bailifs legitimately do). You would have to fly 100% under the radar meaning no bank accounts, no credit of any sort, no electrol roll or agreeing to any form of electrol roll/ credit checking, no claiming benefits etc

Probably easier to just pay it if the earlier suggestion doesnt work
