I discovered a load of free channels on NTL last night. Any idea why?

I discovered a load of free channels on NTL last night. Any idea why?

Hi there,

We don't have an ariel on our house, but NTL is pipe in through cable.

On my Toshiba RP tv downstairs I get the standard 5 channels. I recently picked up the 17" lcd Mikomi and while tuning in I picked up a perfect picture of QVC (who cares!) but I also got some 'almost' channels including Sky Sports (news?) and a few others. the pictures are a little 'fuzzy' butg sky sports is fine EXCEPT it appears to have had the colours screwed with and is about 2 inches to the right too much (if that makes sense).

Now, I thought scrambled pictures would be scrambled. I used to have sky and the scrambled pictures didn't show anything but you did have sound. What I am getting seem to be pictures and sound, but with the pictures slightly 'de-tuned' if you get what I'm saying.

Should I be getting them? Are they channels I should have? Is there any way to 'clean up' the pictures? Or should I just ignore them?

Would love to hear your advice.

Thanks,

Wiltsteve

Sounds like you have analogue NTL. The programmes are "scrambled", but done in such a pathetic way that some TV's will actually show a reasonable picture. I can't discuss methods to "clean them up", because of forum rules.

Thanks for that. Don't get yourself in any trouble by breaking the forum rules.

Sky Sports News comes with the NTL Basic package, we have it. However I have noticed I seem to be getting a music channel on Channel 6 which is nothing to do with my NTL box. I use AV1 for the NTL box, no matter if I change the channel on the NTL box I still get this music channel on 6? Any ideas?

Is this through a Standard TV with no 'box of tricks' to play with the signal?

Thanks,

Yes,

This is without the " box of tricks"

Simply running a cable from where ntl comes into my house into my ariel socket on the TV.

I understand that NTl can't switch this siganl off - so if you have an NTL connection in your house - whether you subscribe or not - anyone can get these.

I can't get a proper signal on any of them apart from QVC!

Did you have to boost the signal at all?

No - Didn't need to boost the signal - although I did have to search all the available frequencies

Picture on mine are all perfect.
