Unable to download on XBox Live using NTL - but can play online games fine.

For the last 2 and a bit weeks I have been unable to download any demos or trailers on Xbox Live, but am able to download the arcade demos as well as any patches for games.

Before this downloading has worked fine since January.

I'm on NTL 1MB connected through a linksys router to an NTL set top box.

I've been to xbox.com where they have a couple of test files to download, which I originally couldn't download, but after asking NTL to move us onto a different server, I can now download these files fine.

When I try and download on XBL, it will load up the download page and then bring up an error message which says 'connection lost.'

For the last 2 weeks, MS have been blaming me ISP for the problem, and NTL say its a problem with MS.

The latest solution from NTL is that its a problem with my set top box, which is an older model (pace) and as a result it struggles with heavy traffic, but if this is really the issue then how come I can download fine on the computers which are on the same connection?

I'm not desperate to get a new cable modem yet because if I can't prove there is a fault with my setup, then it costs 50 pounds.

Is there anything else at my end which I can try doing, or suggest to NTL to try and get them to sort out the problem?

OK,I may be a bit slow on the uptake here(it is nealry midnight and I have had several beers),but from what I can gather you can download fine on various pc's(music, files, whatever)and only have problems with XBOXLive?Have you tried taking the router out of the equation, and just tried downloading from XBL whilst the stb is connected directly to the 360?If not definatley do that to rule out any issue swith you home network first.

Its true what you have been told about the Pace stb's being not quite up to the job,but I would say its more of an issue that they dont cope very well with higher DL speeds,so as long as you arent hammering the connection on your other pc's at the same time this shouldnt be an issue.

Im assuming they placed you on another UBR but why this would have this effect I do not know.To save me waffling on ,I would just try connecting directly first , with no router to see if you still experience the same problem.

My XBL downloads have become EXTREMLEY slow over the last couple of weeks and I am on 10mb(where dl's used to take an average of 30 mins they now seem to take forever,Tomb Raider,Tiger Woods and Amped all started and abandoned half way through ) so I would be interested to know if there is some issue with NTL or if its just good ol' MS

Phone NTL and say u want to cancel everything because they wont send u out a modem. They should send one out.

Also i have NTL running through a modem and this week i have lost connectiona few times during games and the download in market place has gone stupidly slow.

Hey, thanks for the responses.

Yeah you were correct, I can download fine on my computers, but not on XBL. We've tried downloading on XBL whilst all other computers are switched off, so I can't see the stb being an issue. Besides, the stb coped fine before!

We tried connecting it directly to the stb before, but the Xbox failed the MTU test so coudn't connect to XBL.
