TW TVDrive and JVC-LT37DSBJ - no HDMI pic

Hi

Installed today, engineer left with not HDMI pic working.

I have tried all sorts of things (remove scart that runs to JVC DVDR etc) and can only really assume that the JVC is auto-tuning to some extent and quitting before finding HDMI signal from TVDrive.

Any ideas? Anyone have similar set-up issues?

many thanks for any help offered.

HDMI Pic

Hi MarcJ

All I can say is that it took me a while to get either a SD or HD signal delivered through HDMI to my Philips 32" LCD via the TV Drive. I had to choose HD (720P) swtich the TV to the HDMI input manually, then press ok on the TVDrive remote to test the signal. Initially I just got a blank screen, then after a few days I got a terrible broken/scrambled pcture with the TV showing that the incoming signal was swapping between HD 720P and SVGA. It took a week of telephone calls to Telewest to admit there may be a problem with the TV drive (although they were very helpful on the phone) but, last night, it suddenly corrected itself and now shows a superb picture, I still don't know what changed.

You could try setting your LCD to HDMI input then change the resolution of the TVDrive on the front panel rather than via the remote.

To do this, press Reset on the TV Drive, then hold down play and stop together until "boot" appears in the display. Release the play/stop buttons and wait for OUTPT to show in the TV drive display, then press the FF button until HD... is shown in the display, then press OK. After another 30 seconds or so the signal should change to HD assuming you have selected HDMI rather than component in the Telewest settings screen.

Good luck!!

nope. No Joy

Telewest left attempting to say it was down to my TV.

I get apparently no signal down the HDMI cable - the channel says HDMI (ie on the JVC LCD) but no sound or vision.

Is your TV HDCP compatible? Sounds like it may not be.

Try testing your TVDrive on a different model of TV to see if that works.

I can only find information on the DS6 not the DSBJ so can't tell. The DS6 is definately HD Ready.

OTOH HDMI is new and HDCP is sufficiently complex to cause issues. I'd expect to see this in the future where whole TVs just don't work with certain devices (of course you'd have the right to a full refund from the TV vendor in that case... but it's still a pain).

I couldn't get a HD signal via HDMI on my TV Drive and toshiba HD LCD despite following all the instructions.

The culprit was the HDMI cable left by The telewest engineer. I bought a cheapish cable off ebay which worked fine. I complained to telewest who sent a new (working) HDMI cable within the week.

Do you have any way of testing the cable - either by trying to connect something else (DVD player?) or giving your cable to a mate who has a similar set up - to see if it works for him?

Paul.

I thought cable - and I guess it's dumb to have not tried a new one.

Have no other HDMI unit (waiting to get a Blu-ray(?) DVD later) and have no other mates with anything hanging off an HDMI cable.

I might just ring TW and suggest they send me a new one anyhow - tried again and saw a black screen and had some sound for a short while. That sounds like intermittent fault and cable could of course be the culprit.

Many thanks for the assistance from all.

Oh, the JVC spec is as follows:

I Have the JVC LT-37DS6-PED and TV-Drive and the HD works fine on mine.

My setup is Scart for normal Viewing until we get the Mid-April Upgrade, to get the Black Bars Corrected.....

I am using the HDMI Cable supplied by telewest, and then set my TV Drive to the HD Settings (See Attached file) and automatically switches over to AV5(HDMI)

So it definatley works with this tv, i would get the cable or TV-Drive checked out.

Anything else you want to know please let me know

Superb - thanks for the peace of mind!

Have called TW, they need to change the box IMO. Changed the HDMI cable, so it's the box (haven't checked the TV but the fact I get something - ie a blip of the odd picture/sound - makes me think it's the box).

Will let you know (not like you care of course! )

Cable swapped, TV Drive swapped, still no picture or sound (although the odd blip of both now and then).

Telewest engineer spent 20 minutes switching the box to HDMI and back again (as I had done for a week). And then left.

Any advice where to go next? ie Number to call or similar?

Oh dear you need to find a way to test that hdmi in, perhaps yo could buy a dvd player with hdmi test the hdmi in then return it, You will then be able to tell whether TW gave you another dodgy box.

Edit. Hang on a sec surely your mac has a dvi out.

Mac has DVI out but JVC manual says "PC only" for some bizarre reason.

As for "afraid of Mac" it was PC I was afraid of ;-)

That shouldn't be a problem - ignore the PC only ... I've my mac connected with a dvi>hdmi converter to my Z4 and its fine ... at least you can show the engineer that you will get something on the screen - or it is the hdmi socket on the screen that is at fault :-(

Here's the latest...

the G3 iBook has no DVI! So...

Used my component leads instead of the HDMI - bingo!

HD Component -> into TV - and the BBC HD trailer looks peachey!

Any ideas about what next? Should I still pursue HDMI?

Is the picture likely to improve via HDMI? (to be fair I can't begin to imagine how it could improve!).

Right mate, this might help you..

I had TVDrive installed this week to my Sagem 50" Axium, the engineer could'nt get it working through HDMI, when he set it to HDMI it said it was testing the screen, and then it went black for a few seconds. Came back on saying `Test Sucessfull do you want to keep new settings?', hit yes, and then black screen again for a few seconds.. then it reset back to composite with the scart connection. The guy was at it for 30mins trying to get it to work, ended up saying he would have to order a new box and cable... hmmm I thought..

So, after flicking about with the channels I found that it was coming through on my hdmi channel, but only for a few seconds. Bare with me here but it could get confusing.. when I first saw the `testing the screen' msg I flicked over to the HDMI channel and there it was for a few seconds, then it auto flicked back to the scart channel, saying do I want to keep the settings, I hit yes and hoped for it to kick in back to hdmi, but nothing. Black screen... then back to scart! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Here is the soloution.

1) Get ya settings to HDMI,then before you press yes to test the settings turn to your HDMI channel (which will be blank),THEN press yes and you should see it for a few seconds before it flicks back to the scart connection..

2) Then it will ask you if you want to keep the settings, go back to the HDMI (which will be blank) and press ok. It will then come back on, you have a few seconds here to press `text' to save the settings. Then it WONT go back to the scart connection, and your laughing..

What a pain!

Hopefully this helps you mate and this is your problem!! If not it will help someone else!!

Mick

Smile problem solved

Thanks Mick
I had my tvdrive installed on friday and the telewest man would not conect up the hd for me saying he cannot be responible for it. So I had the same problem as marcJ. I followed you advice yesterday and it worked.

So many many thanks it saved me hours (if not days) of problems.

That works for me with the component but not the HDMI.

Either my HDMI is trashed on the TV (unlikely but possible) or two boxes haven't worked with HDMI, or the two leads TW gave me are crud.

The quest continues! (I can't use the Mac laptop, it's pre-DVI).
