LCD PQ with Telewest cable TV?

Though there is nothing wrong with my current 28" Philips CRT I have the cash to get a 32" LCD and am on the verge of buying a Tosh 32WL66.

The only thing putting me off is people's comments about LCD's picture quality from Freeview. Though I want an LCD TV mainly for watching dvds and sport (specifically cycling off Eurosport) I do want decent PQ for general viewing.

I have cable from Telewest, how is the PQ on this likely to compare with my current CRT?

Thanks

I think this is difficult to see for yourself as you are unlikely to be able to go into a shop/showroom and see the exact set up you will have at home.

Either you need people to reply with their experiences here, or you will have to bite the bullet, buy an LCD and try it out. If you are not happy, make sure the returns policy of wherever you buy it from will allow you to return it for a refund (most places will do this I would've thought?)

For what it is worth...I have the telewest TV Drive and recently bought a Toshiba LCD (32WLT58 Model). There were quite a few things I noticed pretty quickly about the picture quality compared to my old Goodmans 28" CRT(!) that I didn't like. Didn't like the black colouring, or the blurring when the camera panned around, poor viewing angle or the leaking backlight around the edges of the picture etc.

The worst thing though was trying to watch football on sky sports...despite constant tweaking, the smearing was so bad it made it pretty much unwatchable and I was embarrassed to invite friends round to watch the footy on the £1000+ TV I had just bought!

In the end I decided I couldn't accept that the quality of the TV was suitable and I am in the process of returning it as faulty to the retailer for a refund. I thought I would be on to a winner with the Tosh as it has had good reviews and won quite a few awards. Reception on other channels via the TV Drive seemed better but not as good as my old CRT...it's just that I watch loads of football and couldn't put up with the poor quality picture on Sky sports...from what I have read this is probably more likely to be down to the lower quality of the sky sports feed as opposed to a fault with the TV itself, but I am now taking a more cautious approach and reading the AVForums on a daily basis to help make a better purchase next time round! Of course once the football is broadcast in HD this probably won't be an issue...whether Sky let Telewest have their HD sports broadcasts soon and at what cost though is another question...I would've thought sky would want to use exclusive access to their HD sports channels as leverage to pick up customers for their HD service themselves, and can't see it being offered to Telewest customers any time soon for a reasonable cost...hopefully I am wrong on that though.

Hope that helps and hasn't put you off too much?

Cheers PaulyBBB. I've just gone ahead and ordered the 32WLT66 so fingers crossed! I know that footie is probably the sternest test of an LCD tv and although I'll watch the England games during the World Cup it's not somethng I'm really into so not a huge issue for me.

I did spend some time in Currys , Comet etc looking at a number of LCD's with the usual cr@ppy feeds those shops tend to give them, and most seemed ok, with the Tosh especially good. Whether I'll think the same in the comfort of my front room remains to be seen......
