WAG54G and ntl email help please

ok i have just got demon home 500 up and running on a linksys WAG 54G ADSL router i can recive mail from my ntlworld email account but cant send i get the message 550 relaying mail not allowed i think ntl use port 110 and either 25/30 for mail but i cant send mail any ideas plaese (i dont want to have to change email addy is it down to router settings?
I have had this problem at my parents house since they had ADSL but as i could recieve mail it didnt bother that much never there for long... but now not being able to send mail from home is a problem....

Typically with most ISPs AFAIK you need to be using an IP range that they recognise to be able to SEND email ie. 'logged in' to their system.

So NTL servers are not recognising the Demon (ADSL) IP you've been assigned and denying you sending email.

Does your Demon service not provide an e-mail service?

As starfire says, this is an anti-spamming mechanism used by ISPs. However, I think you should be able to access and send e-mails using NTL's webmail service, here.

can use web mail and demon offer email but i have had same email addy for 5 years and want to keep it, having to log into webmail is an arse.. I will call ntl

and see what they say...... (still paying for ntl just not where i live anymore)

The best solution to having to change email address when you change provider is to get your own domain name then simply use mail forwarding. This is cheap and easy to do and means you can have the same address for life then

I have found that unless you are using the same server as your email
then it will not send; ie: sending an email using a tiscali address over the ntlworld server, will not go out but can recieve.

Most mail clients allow you to set the incoming and outgoing server. To send email you usually need to be on the ISP's network, but to receive you can be anywhere.

Get the outgoing mail server and your new demon account login details and change the NTL email account to send using the demon server and login (don't change the pop.ntlworld.com server for incoming).

I have my own domain registered with www.1and1.co.uk and they use authenticated smtp servers so I can send email from any network

OK i got all working lovely.......then i reformatted my laptop now i can neither send or receive any guidance with XP firewall and other settings for OUTLOOK 2003 please......

can now recive in Express...2003 using same setting wont...but cant send..Sorry mate i have to clear PM regularly.....

To anyone else having issues with drop outs on DSL change MTU in main seetings to manual and 1492 is working much better now...
MTU should match ISP value apperently...between 1300 and 1500 normally dont go above 1500 (max transmission unit)
