I was speaking to a Telewest customer services rep the other day because I am thinking of moving from them to Sky+. They said that their equivalent to Sky+ would be launched in March 2005.

She couldn't give me any technical details, but if this is the box they are going to be using, I'm now in thinking that I should to stay with them.

I would certainly stay with TW and see what they can offer and the price they will be charging for it, SKY are not going anywhere so if you wish it you can still have a choice in a few months.
You have nothing to really lose by waiting

well the high def channels WONT be availble straight away, Its capabilities but not the service.

Plus you cannot buy the equipment so you will have to pay high rental charges for it.

Sky plus hard drives can be upgraded upto 300 gig which is good.

Plus on a 80 gig hard drive you willl get under 20 hours of high def recordings

March 2005? I'm not sure about that or Telewest's marketing department needs sacking!

If that was imminent I would have thought there would have been Telewest+ info dripped out to current customers (to stop them leaping to Sky+ my bro has it wow)... I've seen nothing in the post however. It does sound good but not holding my breath for March 2005.

Phil in the details it says 80 hrs of recording not 80 gig so must be 160GB+ storage.

As an ex teleworst customer, I have to warn you that they consistantly over promise and under deliver. When I signed up, 5 years ago, I complained about the poor response (and other stuff) time on the TV gide, you could only get "today" up and maybe a couple of hours for "tomorrow".
The engineer who came ou told me the reason that the TV guide was so bad was that they were using the NTL code until they wrote their own. This was still an issue 3 months ago when I went to sky.
In all honesty, sky knocks TW into a cocked hat when it comes to technology and customers support. I really wouldn't hold your breath for the TW offering to be much good.

rapid reply...

Got this from Telewest:

This service is still in its trial period and is planned to be released
later this year. I am unable to discuss how much the service will be
per month, however I am confident it will be as competitively priced as
are all our other packages we offer.

and also this link to their site:

http://mediacentre.telewest.co.uk/ph...lar&id=665136&

Sounds good... Unfortunately no mention of March 2005.

ntl sky+

im an ex ntl employee but my mates still work there
i know for a fact that ntl's equivalant runs on their own servers and they will store around 1 months worth of tv of every channel and programme so u can select it using ur equipment and watch when u like so its more like recorded tv on demand, also they ae soon to stop using the cards as subscription method
