I have not moved but have several friends who have Sky+HD.

HD pictures - the same
SD pictures - far better on VM
VOD - a different world on VM

I currently have both. HD about the same SD better on VM, Video on demand much better. Menus look and work better on sky.

Virgin have quiet clean pictures, Ive used sky and it is not too bad either but SD picture is better on virgin.

I find VOD with Virgin world ahead of Sky - they offer Catch Up TV (iPlayer etc) and also TV on Demand etc

Sky gives you 'Anytime' with a few programmes they choose .... Pants!

always thought I'd miss sky-hd when I moved to Virgin, but I've never looked back.

yes, the menu system is a bit level crazy, but the picture quality has been very good, and the catchup is just stunning - in fact I record far less on it than I did with Sky because of catchup. Has been the odd issues with catchup being overloaded at peak times (for HD content), but generally brilliant.

I moved sky to vm and have to say the hd on vm is not quite as good imo. But the SD is far better on vm with their upscaling.

TiVo is fantastic.

I used to have signal dropouts in heavy rain and snow with Sky. This means you can't watch any programs, even recorded ones on Sky+.
Presumably not a problem with cable.

We had freesat (stanrd sky box and Humax HD PVR) and currently have a Standard Cisco VBox (noHD) whilst we wait for TiVo next week and the SD quality is so much better than sky.

You actually CAN watch recorded programmes on Sky+ (for about 45 minutes from the time the signal is lost) in the (rare!) cases that the weather blocks the signal.

I get all the HD sport I want inc Sky Sports and ESPNHD, EurosportHD the latter two being inclusive on VM but AFAIK an HD extra on Sky .Ok no 3D sports but as yet how many have the kit to receive this? But can get 3D VOD - if I did have 3D -no hassle.
Every other HD channel that carries anything that any sane person would want to watch is also inclusive on VM

My V+HD never crashes it only freezes occasionally between midnight and 01.00 if there is a big update.

My V+ does far more than a Sky+HD does and coincidentally I get BB that is 12-20 times better than Sky or any other ADSL BB supplier can do hereabouts.

This does not make sense?

If a signal is lost from where does the Sky+ record the program?

I rented a holiday house from a brit in France last year and the signal on the main channels disappeared very frequently.

I can only speak from experience. I have owned both VM and SKY and SKY win hands down for me.

I value live HD Channels over unreliable on-demand HD. Spend a few hours using SkyHD and then tell me VM is better. The Sky interface is lousy but when compared to the 'teletext' style VM uses it looks light years ahead.

I have several friends and relatives with Sky who wish cable went down their street. I often use Sky+HD and IMHO the only avantage is the epg. The epg position will be reversed as VM roll out the Tivo V+HD boxes.

I do not know where you get your info from? What live HD channels that are worth watching do you get that I dont?? VOD is not unreliable - it is fantastic on VM and virtually non existent on Sky. And as for the accompanying phone and BB

I am not prepared to buy a Tivo box, so will have to put up with the crap EPG.

To be fair, you can thank Sky and it's restrictive practises for that; HD Sport, anyway. VM has some, but I don't think Sky will let them have it all.

Interesting my wife finds the epg and recording on the V+HD to be very straightforward (far more so than any VCR, DVD Recorder or HDD DVD recorder we have used before) Also recently she spent a couple of days with her sister who has a Humax PVR." " she says "our box is far simpler also they can only record one programme at a time!"

I switched from Sky to virgin about 3 years ago and am looking at switching back but not just for picture quality issues.
I think the sky HD SD picture isn't quite as good as virgins but the HD one and the interface of the box itself is for me better.
I can't compare to the Tivo box as I haven't seen it and have no intention of buying one for £150 as I bought a Sky HD box for £300 when the first come out and vowed never to do it again.

I often watch Sky HD at several friends on similar spec TV's to mine. TBH cant see any difference. If anything Eurosport HD and ESPN are better on VM than on Sky.

I am now able to compare some PSB HD channels between VM HD and freeview HD on the same TV. VM and for that matter consequently Sky delivers better HD on those channels than Freeview

Just switched over today from Sky HD to VM TiVo and to be honest I am pleased with the VM so far, we had VM a few years ago but switched back to Sky due to lack of HD content, but now they offer all the HD that we watch personally, the TiVo seems great although still getting used to it, have a V+HD box in teh bedroom and that is great, and in the kicthen a standard V box, all of them the SD picture is much better than Sky, the HD is marginally poorer quality, but only slightly, not enough to be bothered by though, plus the OD content is great, the iplayer on the TiVo is great, love that as an app, personally I prefer that to the usual OD content on Virgin, plus you get great BB and TV deals, overall the bundle we have now compared to the equivalant with previous we are saving £30 a month so thats a great deal.

Overall, a much better product so far :-)
