need advice on V+ Hard Disk

I have moved into a new flat and the last tenants have left an old V+ box.

We do not have a working cable connection but I was wondering how I could use the hard disk drive on the v+ box to record and playback programmes from my freeview box instead?

Obviously I don't want to do anything illegal - but would is it OK if I am not trying to get channels I am not entitled to?

Technically the box is still Virgin's property, but in any case there is no way that you can use it with a Free view box (or any other box for that matter).

The box will not function as a standalone PVR, it can only record content it receivers via the VM cable network and the cable feed going to its own internal tuners. You cannot connect external devices or signal feeds to the box and use it as a PVR. Also, if the card is no longer valid within the box, the box and the V+ services that enable access to the hard drive are disabled.
