How to boost vigin media signal after splitting??

Hi Guys,

I have just bought a 5-way splitter to split my signal into 5 different rooms in my house.

The virgin media cable that comes into the house now goes into the slpitter and then I take 5 splits from that to the various rooms.

Before I set the whole system up, I tried to just wire up one virgin media box to the splitter to test it, some of the channels come up clear and others pixellate..

Is there anyway around this? Can I somehow boost the signal coming in without telling vm I am going to have multiple rooms and encurring costs...?

In my old house, i had little things on the end of the lead that said 10db, 6db? Are they boosters? Is that what I need?

Sorry to sound so dumb, pretty new to this and looking for any help, thanks...

Re: How to boost vigin media signal after splitting??

As you split the signal the signal strength drops. I suspect with 5 of them the signal is too low to work correctly.
Those things at the end of the leads were attenuators and dectrease the signal level. The signal to the house is normally turned up and then split but this can cause the signal to be too strong at the end of some cables but ok at others. Hence the attenuators are used to reduce the signal so all the cable ends have a good signal level.

Not much you can do without getting virgin in or getting an amplifier/active splitter. I havent seen any for the virgin cable service though

I tried it without the slpitter as well and directly from the cable comin in to the house, some of the channels still have pixelation?

I'm curious to know what you are attaching to all these extensions!. Just how many V boxes do you have? If you are attaching anything else to the cable then this is out of line with the terms and conditions of Virgin Medias services. You cannot 'boost' the cable's digital signal in any way. If this was an authorised installation the VM engineer is able to increase the level of signal coming into the house by making an adjustment in the street terminal box.

If you are doing this to obtain reception of analogue rather than digital channels you are wasting your time as Virgin are gradually switching this service off.

If you are making unauthorised links to the Virgin Media system I suggest you take your enquiries elsewhere.

No, its nothing like that, basically the house is let out, the whole house is getting refurbed and all the cabling is going through walls, under floors, etc... so its all hidden...

The reason for asking about the cabling is because I was going to install all the cabling in myself and then the people staying in the rooms can order VM if they wanted.. If I call VM out they will charge me per room and monthly costs, dont want to take that on... SO its nothing dodgy.

I don't think you have thought this through. You seem to be talking about splitting off your Virgin Media connection to other rooms in your property.

This will not allow people in these rooms to separately contract with Virgin Media for services. They would need their own separate connection to Virgin Media to do this.......

.....and assuming that their address is the same as yours, they can't do that anyway.

I agree entirely with the above, the OP needs to talk with VM about their requirements. Thread closed.
