New TV in bedroom where broadband is

Hi, hope I can find ahelp and answers to my prob as I'm not tecnically minded and searching other threads has confused me more than ever!
In my lounge I have virgin cable TV. In my bedroom we have the broadband.
We have just got a new digital TV for the bedroom which has freesat but I have no airial socket and the picture off the indoor airial is dodgy.
My question is if I use a splitter at the cable input to the bedroom can I then wire the TV to it so it acts as an airial? Or if not how what would I need to get virgin TV on the new set in my bedroom?
Sorry if you have heard all this before but I would appreciate your help oh wise people!

You cannot use the virgin cable as an 'aerial'. It does not carry a conventional Freeview signal in any shape or form. At one time you could obtain the free to air analogue channels this way, but it has been discontinued in many areas and is not a recommended practice.

You will have to talk to Virgin media about a second box to supply your bedroom tv. Or you can use Digisender type of device downstairs which will transmit programmes as an analogue signal to the set upstairs. There are numerous postings about this. Generally this is not a very satisfactory way of doing things and you cannot always guarantee that the Virgin box can be remotely controlled properly. With some boxes you cannot see the menu page remotely so channel changing is going to be a bit hit and miss. In some situations digisender type devices are subject to interferance.

Re: New TV in bedroom where broadband is

Im not quite clear on what you are asking because you are asking two questions really ....

Agree with above poster, you cannot use cable feed to act as an arial, you can split it with one feed going to broadband and one to tv,you will then get Virgin tv on your set ....

As for wanting freeview or indeed anything else on the set then you need a separate arial input, indoor arials unless its a proper one in the loft are just not good enough....

Re: New TV in bedroom where broadband is

Many thanks. I'm getting a picture of what is and is not possible.

Telecom69, to split it would that mean getting a splitter from Maplins or the like and would I then need a 2nd virgin box in the bedroom for feed to go to?

Thanks again.

Virgin would install the splitter for you when they install your additional box.

Yes you would need a box to get the service, either a basic or V+ depending on your financial state,I was presuming you had another box, if Virgin install another box they will probably run new cable hence no need for a splitter, they will do it from outside most likely ....

Having said that if Virgin installed the broadband to your bedroom previously, the the engineer might just do the splitting on that cable, all depends on what he thinks/does when he comes
