V+HD audio options

How do I connect the V+HD box if I wish to listen via the tv’s speakers for some programmes, and also listen using my HDMI amp for other stuff. Is it just a matter of connecting to amp via HDMI as you would normally and using a scart for those times when you want to listen using the tv’s speakers?

Do I also need an optical cable as I’ve heard there’s no 5.1 over HDMI?

Re: V+HD audio options

Connect HDMI to TV and the optical output to your AV amp. Both carry audio simultaneously. One drawback is that in order to get DD5.1 you've to turn HDMI audio override ON in the V+ box's settings. This enables DD5.1 audio output via both the HDMI and the optical out. If your TV lacks the ability to decode DD5.1 audio then you'll get no audio via your TV's speakers when DD5.1 audio is present and you'll have to use the AV amp whenever you want to hear programmes that have a DD5.1 encoded audio track.

Your TV may have DolbyDigital+ decoding? Some new set do.

Re: V+HD audio options

The tv has only one HDMI input so everything (DVD, Blu Ray) goes through the amp. Everything, that is, except my current Humax PVR which is connected via a scart straight to tv and to amp using optical. Also, in order to watch the tv, bypassing the Humax, I have it connected using RF's in and out to carry the signal through it to the tv.

Can I do something similar with the V+HD box? Thanks for your reply.
