Hi all,

I've just moved apartment and the new one came with a TV (Hitachi UT37MX70) Nice, i Know! however,

The TV has only 1 HDMI input which i have plugged into my Virgin Media + Box, my query is...i have a DVD player with surround sound but no HDMI output so i plugged it into the DVD Scart connector in the V+ Box but I cant get any picture/audio through it.

I had the same set up with my Sky+ box in the old house, once the sky box was turned off my dvd played played fine, the same does not seem to work with V+ box...am i dong something wrong?

If this has been addressed somewhere else please could you direct me the right way, 105 pages of threads is a lot to get through!!

The V+ box has no SCART inputs, both SCARTS are outputs. The TV SCART output is disabled if you are using HDMI. The VCR SCART output remains active regardless of the other outputs being used, but it is only an output and intend to be connected to a recording device. Even if the V+ box had a SCART input, you would still not get Dolby Digital audio from it because DD requires a digital conection to a suitable decoder or AV amp. SCART is analogue and only carries two channel stereo.

Connect your DVD player's SCART output directly to the TV's SCART input. Connect your DVD players digital audio output to a suitable AV amp in order to get surround sound. THe same goes for the V+ box itself. You only get DD surround sound if the V+ box is connected to a suitable decoding device such as an AV amp.

thanks for the help, Don't know what ill do the TV only has one wire coming out of it (HDMI) and a PC in, no other inputs...

You could buy yourself a cheap upscaling DVD player and a HDMI switch?

An HDMI switch would allow you to connect more than one HDMI input into the single HDMI port on the TV. You can get a very good 3 way switch with remote functionality for about £20.

HDMI DVD players cost about £50:. You could even splurge and buy yourself a very well regarded Blu-ray player for as little as £150.

What about the audio? Does the display have audio inputs?
