Apologies in advance if a similar thread already exists, but...
OFCOM are inviting responses to their 3rd Pay TV investigation / consultation. This deals with, amongst other things, proposals to force Sky to provide premium channels to other vendors at reasonable, preset wholesale prices. It also covers the provision of HD services (specifically Sky Movies and Sky Sports) to other vendors.
This is important to non-Sky customers as it may pave the way for us to receive Sky HD (and SD for non VM customers) content in the not too distant future.
This is important for current Sky customers because it may also force Sky to revise their own customers' pricing in light of their ability to buy the same services from a different vendor (today if you want Sky Movies HD / Sports HD you can only get them from Sky - certainly in the UK anyway).
You can read the rather long and lengthy consultation document at:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/cond...ytv_condoc.pdf
although as I type the site appears to be down (oops).
You can respond via:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/cond...torespond/form
Again, apologies if this is covered in another thread, but if OFCOMs proposals receive enough positive support then it should have significant benefit to all of us, both Sky and non Sky customers.
The deadline for responses is September 18th.
Many thanks.
