Poor Wireless Range Virgin Media

i am with Virgin and been upgraded to 120mb

i live in a four story house and wireless in most place is excellent, but up on the forth floor is bad and its when i browse before going to bed like on ipad or iphone

now is there anyway of boosting the signal

i could buy a router and use the vm one as a modem, which brand is good

as its for wireless i can use power line adapter to extend

i did think about moving the router onto the next floor but my mac and nas is connected to the router

is there any point on changing the channel or the 802.11 mode: as its set to 54

thanks

Your wireless should be set to 802.11n 2.4GHz (2.4GHz is better then it comes to penetrating walls).

For simplicity I would suggest a Solwise PL-200AV-PEW-N Homeplug Wireless-N AV Adapter and a Solwise HomePlug AV 200 Mbps Ethernet Adapter for £71.17 delivered.
Place the wireless Homeplug adapter on the 3rd floor, this way the Homeplugs will have a shorter connection to one another and be more likely to give you good speed.

I have three develop powerline adapters

one in the same floor as the router, one on the forth floor for apple tv and one connected to the router

i had a look and seems they don't do a wireless extender

Do you mean Devolo? They do actually make one, but it's not cheap. link

In that case you can just buy any old wireless router/accesspoint and after configuring it apropriately you simply plug it into the Homeplug on the fourth floor and you will have extended the wireless network.

ie: Buffalo WHR-G300N - £25 delivered
