I get 3Mb upload atm with Virgin. BT Infinity have raised all their customers infinity upload to 10mb.

Once they double the infinity speeds, the upload speed with e 20mb. - 14mb more than virgins 6mb once upgraded.

20mb more (80mb) than Virgins 60mb once upgraded.

All for £3.50 less, I think BT may win again

The uploads are still 10mb and 2mb for bt infinity. I wouldnt bet on that 80mbps upgrade being free. It would probably be a contract renewal at least.

No BT infinity in my part of Brum.
Still a 4Mb estimate.

Well he seems to think that those on 20MB will be tripled to 60. This is clearly not true so either someone lied to him when he asked them or someone lied on a webpage on which he got the information.

I made no mention of Carlos (great name, btw ) himself lying

They are probably doing this becase BT have launched their 100mb FTTP and they are doubling their FTTC speeds from 40mb to 80mb

Virgin are great and 60mb would be good - but considering im paying £28.50 at the minute compared to BT would be £25. £3.50 less for an extra 20mb download and an extra 14mb upload.

Infinity checker: 39.1mb download and 10mb upload so might be worth changing once BT double them.
You may not get the extra 20mb/14mb for the money though due to exhange distance and loss due to the copper. You can also bet your bottom dollar that if you want FTTP then you will have to shell out for BT to fit it and it won't be cheap.

Quote from BBC's article on this - "Virgin Media's upgrade will mean customers currently signed up for 10Mbps will be boosted to 20Mbps, while users on 20Mbps and 30Mbps packages will both be upped to 60Mbps."

One of us is losing the plot, I think.

You mentioned "lying" in post #82, as if he referred to it.
Or at least that's the impression I got.

As for the 20Mb, I see what you mean; there is no 20Mb anymore.
When did that happen?

FTTP from bt is £45/pm and free install. It is relatively cheap for what it is. Availability on the other hand is extremely limited.

Been trying to find a table I saw the other day regarding the increase, basically if you're on L BB you will get 20mb, XL will be 60MB and obviously XXL will be 100mb.

Seeing as XL encompasses both 20mb and 30mb it'll mean 20mb will increase to 60mb.

I'm on 20mb currently and my understanding is that my speed will increase to 60mb:
"Does everyone get their speed doubled?

All existing customers will get a broadband boost, and in most cases you’ll get double your current speed. 20Mb customers are getting their speeds tripled, while 100Mb are getting an increase to 120Mb – the fastest broadband widely available in the UK."

I think it might be off the books if you know what I mean. When I was up for renewal in july/august I got an increase from 10mb to 20meg even though it wasn't showing on the site.

I know what you mean.
I'm sure there are plenty on 20Mb.

I'm on "L" 10Mb, but never understood what the difference was, between that and "M", the double DL/UL limits apart.

Typical VM confusion though

When I adopted 20Mb very early, it turned out I was actually classed as a business customer for some reason and got priority service.
I regret downgrading now, but it was necessary at the time.

Bts uploads are all 10 mb (exept option 1) what I mean is there is no like 5.5 and 7.3 mb upload quotes, there all 10mb.

I agree that fttc speed deteroits the further from the cab they are.

I have seen customers quoted 7 or 8mb download and got BT total broadband with fibre, and end up getting 37mb download.

This time next year we will be laughing at 40 or 50 mb broadband. It'll be something crazy like 400 or 500

Look on the first page of this thread (second post):

and yes, you were quite right in saying that 20Mb customers get a very good deal out of this. THey get triple their existing speed plus a free SuperHub and activation

So I can be clear.

I am paying for 50mb service but not due for the double speed upgrade in my area till at least October. Fair enough.

Now someone in a different area on 20mb or 30mb could soon be bumped up to 60mb (April for example) but still be paying for their original package.

That puts me and many others in a position where we are paying more for services others will have for cheaper. This could last for many months until the rollout is complete.

If this is right, what are people going to do? Downgrade now or just sit and wait?

Personally I will just stick it out, but I can see a few others getting a bit annoyed by the way it's getting rolled out.

Me too! And, given that there's not really any other way it could be rolled out, there's not really a lot that can be done for those who, for some strange reason, think they're being hard-done-by just because VM can't magically upgrade everyone at the exact same time.

Already get a rock solid 5.98mb/s on 50mb and to be honest I really don't need to go to 100 lmao but can never say no to anything that's free. (March-July for my area apparently).

Anyone know what the new price for 20mb will be then? As I might even drop down to it to get 60mb when it doubles.

Like I said in my first post, it's what the email says.

I have attached the email (just unzip and open) I received from Branson himself (you know the type ) so, see for yourself, it says I am being upgraded from my current 20mb to 60mb. So, if anyone is lying, it's Richard himself.

So, my friend, put that in your pipe and smoke it

Thanks for the welcome guys btw. Nice to be here

Of course it was said in jest Carl. I'm a peace loving kinda dude . Anyway, seems us folk in Manchester are getting done in July according to the postcode checker. Absolutely can't wait.

Was thinking of going and buying myself a Linksys E4200 V2 wireless router after reading so many top reviews about it. Nahhhh, gonna wait and see now what the superhub is like first.

btw....point taken about the

"In the meantime, as part of our double-speed programme, we are delighted to confirm that 50Mb customers will actually be upgraded to 120Mb, meaning even more Virgin Media customers will be able to take advantage of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK."

on Google by The Press Assoc.

Still dont like it , would be happy just to get the full 50 Mb speed all day, without getting a nasty letter.
