Hard Wire/wireless

Seen this mentioned a few times whilst reading through some of the threads.

What do people mean when they say hard wire? Is it just a cable straight from the router to the pc/laptop/xbox etc?

Yes, they may also be talking about doing it properly and running the wire through the walls and putting in ethernet sockets like you have phone sockets.
