How does the DVDO edge compare with the VP30?

As the title says I'm thinking of changing my VP30 with the ABT102 card installed to a DVDO edge.
Has anyone done the same thing?, maybe it's a not a step up, or is it a good upgrade?

Scaling is very similar. deinterlacing is pretty much the same.It has PrEP if you have SkyHD, I don't think the vp30 did. Proper 1080i handling. Has NR if you want it.

Downsides compared to the vp30 has better per-source/resolution/framerate configuration and you can have a different output rate to input rate if you need it, e.g. smooth 72Hz output from a 60Hz R1 DVD) the edge can't do that although if you manually turn off its auto-frame-rate feature (which passes the source frame rate through) then you can force 1080p/24 for a R1 DVD which I think works fine. Clumsy though.

Re: How does the DVDO edge compare with the VP30?

Most of my viewing is through sky HD or blu-rays on my PS3, I do have other DVD's from other regions but I sold my DVD player a while ago.
Am I right in thinking that the edge senses what screen you have and automatically adjusts the output signal to match?

It has an "auto" resolution output setting that uses EDID to determine what in theory should be the optimum output res. There's also a new feature called display profiles. This enables the Edge to keep track of upto 10 displays that have been attached/configured and automatically reverts to these setting when an appropriate display is detected. I'm not 100% sure but this may be included in the latest public release.
