DVI Detective wanted for mac mini resolution problems

Anyone know if a Gefen DVI Detective is available in the UK? OR anyone have a second hand one they want to sell me?

Problem:
Mac mini hooked via DVI-HDMI to Dennon AV amp... Amp hooked via HDMI to Sanyo projector.
When the mac boots with the equipment on, everything works fine. If the amp gets switehed off and back on (or to a different input) the mac can loose sight of the display and reverts to a default resolution. When you switch back to the mac input on the amp, it only SOMETIMES picks up the display again and switches resolution back.

I just want to trick the mac into pushing out 720p regardless of what's connected to the DVI port.

I think I need a Gefen DVI Detective to achieve this... any other recommendations from anyone? I would love to find a software solution, but can't see one anywhere. Switchresx only works with a display plugged in so won't help in this situation I think.

Thanks
Mike

I know you'd prefer a software solution but this might help if you're completely stuck

Extron DVI & HDMI Test Generators & Measurement - EDID 101D
Or similar
Kramer VA-1DVI - DVI-D EDID Emulator

Edit: Just did a quick search and your original request is available in the UK

Hello mrfreedom

The Gefen DVI and HDMI Detective are popular items - we usually supply on Sale or Return as they don't always solve this type of problem.

Have you tried using SwitchResX to manually set the output resolution? It's freely downloadable software that I use on my mini for 1080p output.
