switch box with s-video out

When I laid the cable for a projector, i foolishly thought that an s-video cable - with a few adaptors - would cover my analogue needs. But conversion from my PCs or games consoles are proving to be a pain.

I can get around VGA easily enough with a converter for less than 50 quid.

However, I cant seem to convert a scart or composite cable to s-video. I've tried using scart adaptors with "s-video out" but its just a poor quality black & white picture. I know not all scarts are "fully wired" so I presume these scarts dont have the s-video pins wired (?)

Ideally, i'd like a multi-format swicth box with an s-video out but I cant find one. So alternatively, anyone know how I convert ANY scart and/or composite into s-video?

Thanks
Rob

ps, i hope this is the right forum for this question.

Re: switch box with s-video out

What is the composite source? Can it ouput an s-video signal as well? Why convert? Just send the composite signal and use it instead of initially converting into s-video.

An old Panasonic or JVC s-video VCR would do the conversion for you.

You're also taking one hell of a hit in quality down-converting from VGA to s-video.

Re: switch box with s-video out

Most UK consoles can't outut s-video and look terrible over composite. I would be looking for an RGB SCART to s-video solution.

like this; RGB to S-Video Converter: J.S. Technology

Like i said, I was foolish!

In hindsight, I would have laid a composite AND VGA cable in the walls and not JUST an s-video cable. Saved a few pennies and now its costing me pounds!

Choddo....that converter looks like what I need. Shame about the price though. Thanks.

With a bit of messing around with connectors and a switch box at each end, you could squirt composite down on of your s-video pairs when necessary.

Hi,

It's not quite clear exactly what you're trying to do.

Do you want to send composite video down the s-video cable?

You can do that by using a couple of s-video to bnc y-splitters along with a couple of bnc to phono adapters. That would give you two composite signals.
(as Barcoing Mad suggested)

Or if you want to use 'rgb' then you'll need to use the device that Choddo suggested (it's a good price). You might pick one up cheaply on the classifieds.
You could use a switcher to switch between rgb outputs and a single rgb to s-video unit to convert the signal.

Hi,

If it's any help_ there is a s-video switcher in the classified ads section at the moment.
