Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

Hi all,
I am having some major issues trying to display navigation data from a marine display on a boat to the main lounge samsung tv.

The marine display outputs video from a DVI-D port on the back. It outputs the picture at 800 x 600 resolution.

If i use the following DVI to vga converter:
DVI-D to VGA/RGB/Component Video Converter | VGA/TV Converters | Sharing, Converting, Extending | LINDY UK
i can display the video on any samsung tv below 32" but 32" and above display "mode not supported"

So i tried using the following
--|AV18501|CONVERTER, VGA + AUDIO TO HDMI | CPC
with the previous and went from DVI-D to VGA and then to HDMI with the same results!!

If anyone has any ideas what i could use or if you can explain why it works on small tvs but not large i will be forever grateful.

Re: Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

Hi,

As a guess I would say that the TV above 32" does not support the output resolution that the navigation unit is providing?

Best Regards

Re: Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

@lindytech. Hi Chris thanks for the post, did not expect a response from one of the manufacturers i have tried!! Great product support!!
I gathered is was a resolution problem i.e the larger samsungs not able to scale down that small. What i am looking for is any type solution to this problem, maybe i could modulate the video to RF and distribute it round the boats aerial system?? or maybe i can convert it to composite video? I am well and truely stuck so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Chris

Re: Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

Why don't ou buy a new or used lumagen HDP or DVDO VP30 ish device. They can upscale your 800x600 signal to whatever you want then output it to be distributed to where you want.

Thanks Gordon,
I like the idea and after reading about the products, i now understand exactly what the problem is. However the only problem with these devices is cost. It seems a little overkill for just converting one video input. Do you know of any cheaper single input devices, as long as it takes the DVI-D input, I am not fussed about the way it outputs i.e HDMI, VGA, composite, s-video etc etc.
Again many thanks for your help

Re: Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

From the description it sounds like it might do what you want. You need to find out what the lowest acceptable res is on the PCVGA input of your Samsung. According to the specs that thing will go up to 1280x1024 for PC signal and 1080i or 720P for video signal. It doesnt seem to sugest you can take in a PC signal and output a video res...but I'd hope you can...however...It's about £300..the last HDP I sold s/h on ebay (5 days ago) sold for under £200...

Re: Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

Hi,

It might be slightly cheaper to convert to S-video / composite using a scaler to take it from VGA.

Something like our VGA to TV converter

However I'm not sure how good the picture quality would be on the TV.

Best Regards

@lindytech
Hi Chris,
ok that may work, so can i get a DVI-D to VGA cable or would i have to convert dvi to vga and then use the vga to composite box you have listed??

Re: Resolution/scaling issues on Samsung TV

Hi,

If its DVI-D and not DVI-I then you'd need to convert to VGA first using a scaler.

There are boxes that will take DVI-D or HDMI straight to S-video / composite.
