Oppo HM-31 annoyances

I've got two computers plugged into a HM-31. If say I'm watching HTPC with Mediaportal, and then switch inputs on the HM-31 to the gaming PC, the video from the HTPC stops and media portal goes back to main menu. Changing inputs on the HM-31 causes each PC screen to go to black on each LCD monitor and back on again. I don't think it's a fault but some handshaking issue.

HTPC is connected DVI-HDMI cable into HM-31, VGA output to LCD monitor
PC is connected HDMI-HDMI to HM-31, DVI to LCD monitor
HM-31 connected to Pioneer LX-5090.

Also the secondary monitor disables itsef when I switch inputs.

Any way around this?

Re: Oppo HM-31 annoyances

Hello Berties,

I'm only speculating, but it sounds like it's a software issue rather than a hardware issue. Your PCs both need to decide on what to do when their primary (HDMI/DVI) connection to the HM-31 is severed - and it looks like they do some re-jigging with the secondary displays.

I can't immediately think why they'd do that - what graphics card are you using? Is there any setting in the driver config that you can change that might continue displaying images when one display is lost?

Additionally, I notice that Mediaportal is open source - if you speak C#, perhaps you could look through the source code and see what it does when it loses its display? You might be able to hack it to carry on playing in such circumstances...

Good luck!

Oppo replied and said

The HM-31 is a passthrough system only. It does not have the ability to sync a signal and keep it synced, which is necessary to keep a PC monitor active.
Videocard is ATI X300 with 9.1

Re: Oppo HM-31 annoyances

yeah it's pretty annoying I had all macros setup - tv input, hm-31 switching, mediaportal startup but now can't use them as it'll just put it on the pc monitor. I guess a dedicated htpc will work, but I use the HTPC for more than just video playback so need a monitor.

Re: Oppo HM-31 annoyances

The Gefen HDMI or DVI Detective+ units usually resolve this type of problem if it cant be resolved in the PC set-up

Gefen Inc. - HDMI Detective Plus

Gefen Inc. - DVI Detective Plus
