DVDO Edge support for 288p possible?

Does anyone know if it will be possible for DVDO to add support for auto detection of 288p content to the Edge?

The BBC in particular seem to be chucking out an awful lot of this at the moment. 288p is where 576i content is poorly "filmized" by discarding every other interlaced field and duplicating the remaining field. I cope with it by engaging "Game Mode" (I have the discrete codes for Game Mode On/Off programmed as buttons on my universal remote), which independently scales each field to full resolution. 288p is often employed only for talking heads in documentaries interspersed amongst archival footage which has not been messed with, so it would be great if the Edge could deal with it automatically. I don't know if the Edge's chips (unlike the iScan) could be programmed to deal with it.

I think all the 288p work was done exclusively in the game mode, as they believed games were the only content to have that. Worth an email to DVDO though.

Top Gear used to be a prime offender for the 288p approach; I believe it's because they use a cheap/free 'film effect' filter in Final Cut Studio, when there's one that's about £80 that does a proper job!

Like jgrg's idea through, although I don't think it would be possible with the Edge as the device uses an ABT2010 chip which contains the deinterlacing code. The only chance to see this would be in a VP50-Pro or other DVDO product that uses a FPGA.

Top Gear still do it. I've complained to the BBC twice. The other evening BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4 were all showing programmes in 288p at the same time!

Thanks for the information that it is a Final Cut Studio filter.

My processor supports 288p: it has an 'off' button on the front panel.
