Unhappy Need Help with BT Vision Scart to 15 pin VGA!

Hi All,

This is my first post, apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum. This one seemed to fit the bill!

I have a BT Vision box and a rather cheap 42" Firstline Hisense plasma tv.

I have always had a problem with the tv picture having what I've been told is 'fish eye'. When the picture pans from left to right straight lines are displayed bent around the sides of the tv but the middle of the screen is ok.

My X-Box 360 displays perfectly. The BT Vision is connected via scart and the x box is connected via 15 pin VGA cable.

So I've bought a scart to 15 pin VGA cable but when I tested it my tv says 'out of range'.

My laptop and x box display on the tv fine via the same vga port.

Can anyone advise whether I need a new cable or is what I'm trying to do impossible without additional hardware?

Would like to keep costs down if pos!

Any help greatly appreciated.

SCART to VGA is not going to work without some conversion. Has the TV got any other inputs other than VGA.

Re: Need Help with BT Vision Scart to 15 pin VGA!

Hi and thanks for your reply!

It just has two scart ports (one which doesn't work) and a 15 pin VGA connection. Actually I've just looked and it has the blue red green yellow red and white ports (I think this is known as composite connection, sorry for sounding thick!). I've not used these but my mates 360 uses these on his tv. I could borrow his cable and see if my 360 displays ok to see if the ports work.

Re: Need Help with BT Vision Scart to 15 pin VGA!

Right I've tested the 360.

Its displaying via the composite (red green and blue) port on the tv no probs.

Should I try getting a scart to composite cable rather than a scart to VGA cable to see if this sorts my tv display out?

Re: Need Help with BT Vision Scart to 15 pin VGA!

The HD15 vga socket expects at least a 480P signal which is why your 576i scart signal isn't recognised.

your description of how the image looks on your set sounds to me like you are just not watching in the correct aspect ratio. Set your vision box to output 16:9 and set then scroll through the aspect ratios on teh set until the image is the correct shape

Re: Need Help with BT Vision Scart to 15 pin VGA!

Hi,

Well I've tried both 4:3 and 16:9 under the aspect ratio menu on the BT Vision box and although the problem is lessened on the 4:3 setting it is however still there.

My TV is pretty cheap and basic and under the menu there is no option for widescreen or normal or any aspect changes. Simply colour temp and contrast ect.

I thought as the 360 displays so well going through the 15pin VGA connection, perhaps the BT Vision would as well.

So I tried this Scart to VGA cable but it doesn't work and says out of range. I'm thinking now its more complicated than I first thought. (as so much often is!).

Do you think this product could solve my problem (an RGB to Plasma VGA converter)

Re: Need Help with BT Vision Scart to 15 pin VGA!

blue red green is component, a very good connection.
Yellow is composite or the worst known connection to man, you may find a Scart to composite cable will work OK
The other two are audio.

Also popular was a Scart to Component adapter which used to retail for around £30.
