motion judder on Marantz PJ

Ive bought a secondhand Themescene HD3000 scaler for use with my Fujitsu tv and my Marantz Projector, using it tonight for the first time, Ive noticed bad motion judder in the middle of the screen, settings at the time were 720p 50hz, the projector is an american model VP12S3. Ive changed the setting on the scaler to 720p 60hz and it seems to be ok, no judder. Should I be worried, is there something wrong? Apart from this the picture is absolutely fantastic!

It would have been a 60Hz source I bet. The ThemeScene processor never did an automatic 50/60 output based on 50/60 input. Can't remember if later firmware fixed this or not.

Re: motion judder on Marantz PJ

Source output was whatever a normal UK source would be 50hz?
The output from the processor was 50hz to the PJ, now Ive switched it to 60hz it seems ok.

Re: motion judder on Marantz PJ

That is somewhat of an issue then. The 50-60 conversion that you are having to use (from taking 50Hz in and output 60Hz) is going to put a small amount of judder into the signal through frame repetition. I wonder why the 50Hz input had such a visible judder though and if it is specific to the projector. Does the Fuji TV show any judder with 720p50?

Do you observe the same judder issue using a DVD player connected directly to the PJ and sending 720p/50 signal with a PAL R2 disc ?

Re: motion judder on Marantz PJ

It seems to do it on some bits of kit and not others and Im sure its the projector, I have used a Toshiba HD E1 and had the same effect. Swapped that for a Pioneer DV939a on components and havent had a problem, thought at the time it was the Tosh, I now use a HD XA1, which is american and output 60hz! So think its the PJ not liking a 50hz signal. Its not a problem now as the scaler will convert to 60hz, all seems ok doing this. The Fujitsu doesnt seem to mind either way. Is this because the PJ is american or is something wrong somewhere?
