Is the VP20 the one for me?

Hi Folks,

I've been looking for a convenient solution to a common problem of having 'too much stuff'!
Initially I was looking at HDMI/Component hubs and then decided that given their high price, perhaps a processor would be a better option.
IE, Connecting all my sources via HDMI or component to Hub/Processor, then via a single HDMI to a Pioneer 427.
-
SD DVD is of prime importance to me so this is what led me to thinking that the scaling power of the VP20 may be superior to that in the display (I know the screen still has to get from 720 to 768 but figure the 480 to 720 is most of the work done....)
I've also considered at half the price the Pioneer PDA-V100HD.
-
So ultimately I guess what I'm asking is if there would really be any advantage to spending the extra on the VP20 over the Pio.
As far as connectivity goes, they both have everything I need.
Cheers in advance

Re: Is the VP20 the one for me?

according to lot of forum members Lumagen will probably have the best scaling quality for sd.

Re: Is the VP20 the one for me?

If you add the ABT102 Deinterlacing board to the VP20 you will have current generation deinterlacing which will be an improvement for DVD and Freeview.

I recently bought a VP50 which has same scaler as VP20 and ABT102 board built in. Definate improvement with Freeview but my screen is 37" 480p Plasma (PW7) so not a direct comparison.

Deinterlacing will be on par with the current £600-£1900 DVD players.

Massive improvement for SD it isn't, but only you can decide if it's worth the extra money.

Also with a scaler you get the choice of zooming into a picture to maximise the size (removing black bars) while not distorting the ratio.

I don't see a loss of detail but I'm only zooming aprox 450 lines of actual picture of 2.35 movie into 480lines - my screens resolution.

Many find this boardering on being "sacralidge" but whatever bag is I say
