Which scaler would you recommend?

Hi All,

Just bought the Sharp XVZ21000 DLP PJ will be running the following:

Sky HD for 50% HD Movies 50% HD Sports
HD DVD + Up-scaled SD Dvd
Blueray Movies & Games

Should I be going for the VP50 because it does the 'Prep' thingy for Sky (good for SD & HD)
Lumagen HDQ because it does HD scaling very well? (main use)
Vantage ? (don't know how good it is vs the others)
Crystalio 3100 (not sure if its the best value vs others)
or Optoma HD3000 because of VFM factor @ £699?

I don't have a specific budget but I am looking at the modest end of the market

your advice is much needed!

Re: Which scaler would you recommend?

Lumagen HDP / HDQ range can use EDID functionality to forc 576i out of Sky - the equivalent of PREP. I'd say it's only trumped by the VP50 in terms of processing video - relevant for the sport in your list - but if you're talking HD sport, then it does a fine job of that (seeing as there's really less to fix with HD video to get a decent pic).

Consider a Lumagen HDP at less than £1000.

Re: Which scaler would you recommend?

And you don't want to be feeding it upscaled SD DVD, you want it to do that for you.
