Lumagen HDQ into SIM2 HT3000E - flicker on source change.

I'm now the proud possessor of an HT3000E. The picture's superb but when I change from, say, Sky SD to HD the picture takes a few seconds to stabilise. No big deal I suppose but it would be nice if I could minimise this effect.

It happened with my old 300 projector to a much lesser extent.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Re: Lumagen HDQ into SIM2 HT3000E - flicker on source change.

Anyone any ideas please?

Since originally posting, I've been trying to decipher the HDQ manual but it's not the most friendly document! It would be useful if it contained a "If this happens, try this" type section.

To explain this problem in a bit more detail - the Lumo's set to 1080P-24 output. When changing sources (or from SD to HD on the sky box) the picture disappears, then appears for a few seconds, appears to stabilise, then about two seconds later goes again, reappears in some strange colours and finally settles down.

It's not the projector because I tried a 380 as well, with the same result on 1080P.

Re: Lumagen HDQ into SIM2 HT3000E - flicker on source change.

Why are you using 1080p24 out on 50Hz sources?

The only things I can suggest trying are setting the HOTPLUG stuff on the problem inputs to the opposite of what they are at just now....

I also suggest using 1080p50 for satellite stuff as 1080p24 is incorrect

Whoops, sorry Gordon - It's not set to 24. Don't know why I typed that out...

Re: Lumagen HDQ into SIM2 HT3000E - flicker on source change.

The flicker is just due to HDCP handshaking between the projector and the connected device.

It would be great if the projector would simply blank the screen until handshake was completed but it doesn't hence you get all this wierd junk on screen.

I have had this issue with every Sim2 processor combination I have seen over the last year so would be pretty happy to say that it is the projector.

I would also clarify that I don't consider this an issue exactly but it is one of my top feature requests for all projectors in the future!

As for the Sky issue, you need to redo the handshake when the sky box is set to auto and you switch from HD to SD or vice versa. This is a real pain but also one of the annoying parts of the HDMI spec. My Fujitsu plasma panel does the exact same thing but handles it with a little more aplomb - the screen goes black then a short message "certifying HDMI" appears before the image comes back. Still not perfect but at least it takes away the questions about what is happening and doesn't show any worrying crap on screen.

Re: Lumagen HDQ into SIM2 HT3000E - flicker on source change.

Exactly what Neil says. I have recently installed HT3000e and HT380e with Lumagens, and long term HT300s and D80s, all have issues with switching on the Lumagen and thus the Sim2 needing to rehandshake. The changing from SD to HD channels on the Lumagen is almost the same as changing inputs altogether as the Lumagen must hook onto the new resolution and HDCP lock.

I'm pretty sure from our emails the other day you've got 50/60 and 24 sorted. I actually tended to use 1080p48 out with Sim2 projectors not that I think it makes much difference!!!

Yes thanks Liam. It's all looking pretty good now! I really must try & get to grips with this video processing stuff a bit more.

It's an age thing you know!
