Different files, different resolutions

I have just bought a VP30 (with ABT102) to use with my Dreambox DM500 (576i out via YUV) and my Naim DVD5 (576p out via DVI).

Next month I hope to receive a PopcornHour A-100 media player that will play my AVCHD camcorder files and my ripped DVD ISOs.

My quandary is what resolution to set for output on the PopcornHour to best handle both. The AVCHD is 1920 x 1080i native and the DVD ISOs are obviously 576i. My TV (at the moment) is 720p.

What do I set as the output resolution on the PopcornHour (it'll go to 1080p but it's no scaler) in order to get the best results?

or do I need two media players - one for the AVCHD and another for the ISOs?

Re: Different files, different resolutions

You will have to set your compromise unfortunately. You could keep changing output for ISOs or HD files? Or you have to decide which is more important.

With the DVD5 I would suggest running RGBcvS from the scart at 576i.

Thanls, Liam. You think that the ABT102 is a better deinterlacer than the Faroudja board in the DVD5? Wouldn't this make for another d/a conversion in the chain?

Re: Different files, different resolutions

The ABT is a better de-interlacer than the faroudja, especially for 50Hz film source material, imho. While you will add d to a and a to d in to the equation by doing it Liams way you may see less artefacts on screen if you do. If you have a lead it's worth trying.

Thanks Gordon. I do have a lead, I believe and yes, I will certainly try it.
