Confused newcomer to processors

I'm looking for some general beginner advice on my next step. I have tried to read through some threads but can't see the wood for the trees so my apologies if similar advice already exists.

I bought a Panasonic PH9 panel at the beginning of 2007after spending weeks looking at countless panels. I made a point of including a side by side comparison with the much more expensive Fuji, conscious of the reputation of Fuji processing.

I liked the Panasonic screen though so I chose the route that the dealer said many choose, adding a separate processor later. that's where I'm at now and where I'm confused:

1. I assume I am looking for a 'starter' processor if such a thing exists to feed all of the visual inputs into. I just don't really understand the choice of products and price points.

2. I also don't understand whether these are purely processors or whether you have to also pay for an included amplifier. I'm really not worried about amps at this stage, just better picture processing.

Current set-up:
- two terminal boards into my panel at present
- Sky connected via Scart
- a modest LG DVD (upscaling but I stick to 576p when I remember!) via HDMI
- a spare and unconnected S-video board which was supplied as standard
- stereo with a pair of Opera Superpavarotti speakers
- no plans to go down a 5.1 route for another year or two

Any pointers appreciated.

Paul

Unfortunately I think you have posted in the wrong forum. The processors talked about in this forum are pre-amp processors rather than pure video processors (which from your post is what I assume that you want).

You need to look at this forum: http://www.avforums.com/forums/video-scalers-video-processing-progressive-scan/

I am not an expert at all on video processors but have been following the pure video processor forum for a while as I have a similar interest to you in optimising my video performance. As with all AV kit, there appears to be a huge price range. However, the starter price for a reasonable processor appears to be significantly greater than for other AV kit.

This product is apparently good for the price: http://www.royjowetthomecinema.co.uk...-Hot-Deal.html

and is discussed here:

Themescene HD3000 - any major downside?

However, the forum members on that forum are probably in a much better position to advise.
