bad picture with component cables-help

hi i messaged on here before about scart leads,well i decided to try some component cables to run from my dvd player to my tv,but when plugged them in the picture seems to be worse then the scart leads,i have plugged all the colours in the right sockets red,green and blue and the 2 audio cables,but still the picture is bad,i have progressive mode on my dvd player and set it to that but its still bad,and i take it my tv has progressive mode as its a 1080p tv.model number samsung le46m8,do u know what im doing wrong?

How exactly is the picture bad? Could it just be the quality of the TV in general? Are we talking colour, motion artefacts, banding, noise, ringing on edges, jagged edges that kind of thing?

i dont think its the tv as it has crystal clear pictures with everything else,the pic is not as sharp as it could be and quite grainy

You dont mention what player you are using. A fair few of the cheaper ones dont look as good via component as they do via HDMI. Not many will upscale via component either, not that upscaling is all that when done by a budget machine anyway. Initially set the player to 576.

Check the players picture output setup and change between RBG and YPBR ( sorry can remember the correct terminology).

i have got a sony rdr gx300 which was quite expensive
