vp50 and very confused!
Hi there, hopefully somebody can help me, this is my frst foray into the dark world of video processing.
I have a vp50 with a dv29 dvd player and a ps3 connected through hdmi to a optoma h79 projector. All was working well. I then did a hotswap of the hdmi cables when I was trying to connect something else.
After this the dvd player worked fine, but the ps3 player when connected will not show at all on the projector, the light on the vp50 is blue, so as I understand it the vp50 is seeing the ps3 and also handskaking with the h79, all the h79 shows is "searching" when connected through th vp50. I have checked all the cables accoss different inputs and the dvd player works on all hdmi inputs with all the cables correctly. The h79 also shows the ps3 when connected directly without the vp50.
please help me. Have I done something wrong with the hotswap?
Is something broken.
Does the blue light mean that all is well with the vp50 but that the h79 is broken, I am not recieving a blue screen on the projector, meaning as I understand it that the signal cannot be processed, but that the h79 cannot find the signal.
Please help me, I feel thta I have complicated my life no end, and feel incredlibly frustrated.
Bhusan.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
Does it seem like something is broken, or is it more likley that a setting is wrong?
I am a complete newbie to vp's and am getting quite frustrated with this, although i must say that the sharpness of the dvd player going through the scaler is quite noticeable.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
The VP50 does not like Hot swapping , nor I suspect any box that uses HDMI , I would unplug the VP50 , leave it about 2 minutes (leave the other items on) and then plug the VP50 back on. If that fails , switch off the VP50 and the PS3 and then power up the VP50 and PS3 in that order.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
If all else fails, try a factory reset on the VP50. Obviously you lose all the settings, but this been useful for me a couple of times. Don't remember the exact sequence off the top of my head, but it's in the manual.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
hold down Menu & Exit as you plug the power back in, I think
Does sound like one of those situations that a reset or cold boot will fix.
Always worth remembering all that encrption key nonsense means you can't just plug & swap HDMI like an analog cable

Re: vp50 and very confused!
Is it possible for the firmware to become corrupt?

Re: vp50 and very confused!
I am trying to update the firmware from 1.04 to 1.06 to see if that will make a difference but I very much doubt it.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
Certainly worth trying support, it's possible the box is faulty (although if some devices work in certain ports & others don't.... and those others work direct to a TV...)
I don't live too far from West London, I could take a look.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
Try connecting the PS3 direct to projector. Then set the PS3 to max output 576p. Then try it back through the VP50 and see what happens. I wonder whether something has happened to the VP50 that is causing it to load wrong output res based on incoming signal? Can you look at the menu tree on the front panel display and see what it says it's doing when the PS3 is plugged in?
I am confused as to whether you can see the OSD of the VP50 on the PJ or not?

Re: vp50 and very confused!
Yeah it does sound like a res problem, or it's switching to outputting over analog
or it's knackered

Re: vp50 and very confused!
Hi Liam, choddo,
I have connected the ps3 directly to the projector and set the resolution of the ps3 to only 576p. I have then connected the ps3 to the hdmi input of the vp50.
when i select the the ps3 on the vp50 I now get a blue light on the vp50 signifying that it is processing the signal and also that it is handshaking with the projector as i understand it. The result on the projector is a blue screen and i can acces the menu on the vp50
the info button shows as follows
iScan VP50 - v1.06
INPUT STATUS
Video Source : HDMI 1 (HDCP)
Signal type : 576p-50HZ, RGB
Audio Source : Off
spect Ratio : 16:9 Full Frame
UTPUT STATUS (Digital)
Resolution : 1280x720p, RGB
Frame Rate : 59.94 Hz (Unlocked)
Line Rate : 44.955 Khz
Pixel Rate : 89.011 Mhz
Aspect Ratio : 16:9 Full Frame
DVDO by Anchor Bay
Does this help in any way, the dvd player works on all inputs and the ps3 does the same thing on all inputs, sky sdi works fine.
I have tried another ps3 as well and get exactly the same problem.
Does it sound knackered?
Choddo, I am in west ealing if its not too far, and would appeciate any further help you could give, this is my first video processor and it is causing me no end of anguish.
Many thanks again,
Bhusan.

Re: vp50 and very confused!
I haven't read the rest of this thread, so you might have done it for a reason, but you seem to have 50Hz in, but 60Hz out. Normally you would map 50Hz in to 50Hz locked output. The same with 60Hz in and 60Hz out locked.
Also, if you haven't engaged PReP, then not much processing can be done with a progressive source
