Software/Hardware question
Got a shuttle running 1080p to my Sony KDS55A2000. I have a cable box that supports component, RGB/ and svideo out. Looking to have an attempt and using the shuttle to work as a video processor to try and improve the picture output from the cable box. I guess the best I can input into a video capture card is Svideo then use some sofware to scale and output to DVI/HDMI. Are then any video capture USB sticks that support Svideo and do we think it is worth the effort. Also what software would I need FFD show I see is mentioned and I have also read about a hack that enables something. Cheers

Re: Software/Hardware question
S-Video is a poor type of connection and I personally think you will be pouring money down the drain. the best possible connection from your Cable box is via component (hopefully not mixing this up with composite), then RGB Scart followed by S-Video.

Re: Software/Hardware question
Ok will see if anyone else has any views. Everyone says how good a PC scaler is and I guessed that as I have a PC by the screen it would be worth a go if it was not going to work out too expensive. The thinking was that a capture card with component in would be £££'s so next best would be svideo.
Cheers

Re: Software/Hardware question
Your PC may well upscale brilliantly, but S-Video is a poor connection, you can not get a quart out of a pint pot.

Re: Software/Hardware question
Ok I can stream from my cable box direct to my shuttle via VLC and use the preset scaling options. Do you know of any other software that can run with VLC (video Lan Client)

Re: Software/Hardware question
Pluggedin.tv do a component/RGB capture card that is very good, far better than Svhs.
I used to use one with sky+ and a scart - RGBs cable, also supplied by Pluggedin.
Works with Dscaler, free software.

Re: Software/Hardware question
Ok looks like £150 not sure if I would spend that sort of money on something that I cant try first. Will look around for a 2nd hand one. Is it the sweetspot card?

Correct.
For the price it's about the best you can get for analogue SD and PQ to suit, any better then you would be looking at £1000+ for a dedicated ext non-PC VP.
