VP30+ABT102 and SDI Input

Hi

I'm using a VP30 with ABT102 precision deinterlacing card with Sky+ and a Panny phd42.

I am considering fitting an SDI input card and modding my V1 Sky+ with an SDI output.

Before I do so I just wanted to confirm that SDI inputs on the VP30 will still utilise the ABT102 card?

Anyone else using this combo? Is it a worth while upgrade?

cheers

Alan

yes the SDI does use the ABT102 as SDI is an interlaced transmission standard.

And I presume that if I bought the VP30/102 I could remove the SDI card from the HD+ and insert it into the VP30?

Not only does SDI use the ABT102d but the ABT102d is better at handling slightly out of spec SDI inputs then the default SiI504!

It means you can use the common Oppo 971 SDI'd DVD player with the VP30 with NTSC & PAL discs without issues (previously most SiI504 based scalers had issues with the Oppo).

You can trade in your HD+ (remove SDI card first ) direct with DVDO, I think it's done thru there international distributors but you need to register the trade in at the DVDO website to start it off.

Thanks - I thought that was USA only - I'll give it a go.

No they added an international option end of last year I think. However just checked and it doesn't list the VP30+ABT102D package yet (took a while for them to add it to the US offer too). Just give them a call/email and they'll probably be able to do the deal ($1000 off plus ~$250 handling fee for shipping, vat etc).

Is this VP30 + ABT102 combo the best option for SD at the moment (both film and video via SDI inputs.) I'm not concerned with HD at the present time.

Thanks,
Steve

...May I add another question to Madders' question?...

Would Crystalio II SD processing be superior to VP30+ABT102 (through SDI)?

VP30 + ABT102 with SDI is about as good as it gets currently for SD, other like Crystalio are very close I suspect so don't expect to see huge differences.
