Best SD DVD player with Lumagen HDP

I am awaiting delivery of a Lumagen HDP which will be ISF'd when it arrives. I intend to use it with my Arcam DV88+ DVD player but I am unsure if it worth upgrading the Arcam? There are a few newer DVD players appearing in the classifieds (Arcam DV79) with HDMI outputs. Is it worth me changing the player for one with a digital output?

Cheers

Brian

If you do change make sure that it can output an interlaced signal, like the 79. The 88s are still good though...

I think the best option for best PQ via SD DVD is to go via SDI into Lumagen HDP ....not HDMI. As for player teh Arcams looked cool to me..but my SDIed Philips is awesome

I've got a Philips 963SA that has an SDI mod and it provides a truly special picture. AFAIK this mod is available for your current player and may well be the better option in your setup. I'd garner the opinion of whoever you are getting to do your calibration.

If you are using a HDMI connection to the display, and HDMI is the preferred connection for said display, then interlaced HDMI from a DV79 is so very nearly as good as SDI you might as well go that route. Otherwise you will have to SDI mod the DVD player (approx £300) and also you will need to look for a Lumagen HDQ as I don't think you can get SDI boards for the HDP anymore. Even if you can get hold of one, also remember to factor in the cost of said board against cost of just buying another player!!!

Get an Arcam 79 and use interlaced HDMI. As said above its soooo close to SDI
