Help needed: setting up iScan HD+

Hi, I just purchased an iScan HD+ from this forum. Really pleased, immediate and impressive improvement in pq and all streakyness eliminated. But I have a fair amount of judder on panning scenes and don't really understand how to set up the output to work with my Optoma H27's 854x480 native resolution. I've tried setting the H27 to 1:1 (no scaling) and the HD+ to 854x480 under output format user mode but the picture remains squarish not 16:9 as I might expect. Also, none of the output modes work at all well with the pj other than the 480p. Can anyone suggest what I need to do? Thanks...

How are you connecting sources / scaler / PJ ? Are these problems common to all sources?

This is with Sky+ connected to HD+ via RGBS and HD+ to pj via component. I haven't tried the dvd yet but I suspect it'll produce the same result. At the moment, I perceive my problem to be that there doesn't seem to be a preset output format for 854x480. Also, reading through other posts the judder can be caused by output (scan?) frequency so I tried some settings that looked like the right ones but they caused the picture to either disappear or change colour!

You need to get the scaler to do 50Hz output for Sky.

However I'm not sure that the Optoma would accept 50Hz 480p as 480p is traditionally an NTSC resolution. To be honest, I don't think you will get perfect pixel matching on this PJ. Not without a LOT of trial and error anyway. You could try 576p for PAL or 720p for both types of signal and see how well the projector scales it for you?

Thanks for the info, I tried 576p @50Hz which seems to work okay with no judder. I'll live with it for a while and see how it goes.

Strangely though, 576p @60Hz seems to change all the colours for some reason.

Same thing as 480p @ 50... The Optoma will likely only understand 480p resolution if it is 60Hz, and 576p resolution if it is 50Hz. These resolutions are basically NTSC and PAL Progressive scan.

Having read vast amounts of information about scalers in this forum over the past few weeks and comments about their effectiveness with Sky/value for money etc... I have to say (for the record) that on my, less than optimal, setup there is a huge improvement. The H27 cannot deinterlace effectively and this is now cured. Also, unexpectedly (for me anyway) everyone has commented on how the picture from Sky almost appears 3D!! So, a massive thumbs up for the HD+ so far.
