PROBLEM SORTED: Snazio 1350 won't show most EyeTV programmes

I have just got a Snazio 1350 to view my EyeTV recording from a Mac. However, only about 10% of EyeTV recordings I have play. The symptom for those that don't play is that the stream information shows an unknown format and the screen is black. For those that do play the start time is always none zero. I have seen it over 26 hours.

I am using an iMacG5 with OSX 10.4.6, iLife06, EyeTV 2.2 and Snazzii s/w 1.6
I have tried two versions of the Snazio firmware: the one that came with the machine and the one dated May '06 from Snazio's website.

Any help appreciated, especially from Mac+Snazio users.

I have solved the problem. Although the Snazio will play some EyeTV recordings, the solution is to export the recordings as an MPEG2 Programme Stream. These do work with the Snazio. It is a quick process taking approx 2 mins for a 1 hour programme on an iMac G5.

I think the claiim by Snazio that it works with EyeTV recordings could be based on analogue TV receivers, and not DTT receivers. In the former case Elgato software creates an MPEG2 stream and in the latter it uses the broadcast stream itself.

Sounds like the difference between a programme stream and a transport stream (which will itself contain a programme stream). It is easier to record a .ts from a DTT receiver - as it requires less processing, and may be more useful. However an analogue capture card that does on-board MPEG2 compression is likely to create a programme stream.

As you say it is a quick process to take a transport stream and extract the programme stream.

It might be a quick process, but it means I have two copies of the programme on my hard disc (one for EyeTV and one for the Snazio). From another forum, however, I found out that the better solution is to use Elgato's EyeConnect. This provides the Snazio with direct access to the recordings. I won't be using the Snazzi software from now on.
