a/v reciver upscaling?

hello,
i know that if i want to plug a set top box from SCART scoket (RGB) to the component socket (YUV) in the plasma screen i need to use an transcoder.
i want to know if will have an a/v reciver (with upscaling capebilty) that has s-video socket in , and component video out = could i plug a SCART TO S-VIDEO cable from the set top box to the a/v reciver and a component cable from the a/v reciver to the plasma screen - is this going to work?
so in this case i not have to buy an transcoder...
thanks for any answer

If the set-top box can switch the SCART output to be SVideo, then you can connect the SCART via an SVideo adapter cable to the AV amp and it will upscale.

If the set-top-box can only output RGB then you will only be able to connect to the amp with composite video, unless you buy a transcoder.

Hi goyt,

Yes this should work. Only problem is that you are relying on the quality of the up conversion in the amp to beat that of a dedicated transcoder like the JS-Tech one.

With 2nd-hand prices of the JS-Tech box around £80 in the For Sale forum I would be tempted if it were me.

thanks, so if i get it right, the conversion from RGB to YUV of a good TRANSCODER is always better than the amp conversion?
