Arrow Buying Advice Needed

I currently own a late model, 51cm Stereo t.v with component input.

Anyway I have decided that there is a definite trend towards Widescreen displays and Digital TV, DVDs and the next gen video game consoles are all broadcast or best viewed in widescreen mode, so I have decided to buy a Widescreen T.V.

Basically, whilst I would like an LCD, Plasma or DLP TV, my budget restricts me to either a small lcd or medium CRT so I'll probably get a medium sized CRT TV.

In Australia, where I live widescreen CRT tv's come in 2 sizes 66cm and 76cm, all standard 16:9 widescreen.

Most of these will have 100hz 'flicker free' refresh rates which sounds good, but these are mainly at 480i. A few of them cost an extra $100-200 for progressive scan but this exclusively is 576P and is almost always at 50hz when in progressive mode, unless of course you add another $100 for 576P at 100hz - I'm not sure if you can get 576P at 100hz but I think you can.

Firstly, the gaming system I want to get supports progressive scan but only 480P output - would this work on a 576P tv?

Secondly, would a regular 480i signal look better at 100hz than a 576P signal at 50hz?

I would use the t.v primarily for Digital T.V but also for my Progressive scan dvd player and game consoles at 480P.

Obviously, as previously mentioned, cost is a big factor. These are the options available to me:

66cm, 100hz 480i TV - AU$650
66cm, 100hz 480i, 50hz 576P TV - AU$800

76cm, 100hz 480i TV - AU$1000
76cm, 100hz 480i, 100hz 576P, 50hz 1080i TV - AU$1200

If I auctioned on ebay I might be able to get 20% off those prices once postage is considered, but on a 76cm the postage costs renders the cost advantage negligible.

So basically, my price range is AU$600 - $1200.
I want a widescreen CRT TV, 66cm or 76cm, with 100hz or progressive scan or both. Keep in mind the progressive scan is 576P. It is going to be used for my Prog Scan DVD player, SD set top box and 480P outputting Games console.

What would you recommend?

Thanks, I posted it there just after you replied.

I have decided to get a t.v that has progressive scan, but only 576P, my question is will an Xbox 360's 480P signal show as progressive scan on this 576P tv, I don't mind if there is upscaling or whatever, as long as it is broadcast in progressive scan or at least 100hz without progressive scan.

Thanks, any replies are greatly appreciated.
