Phil, thanks for the review.

Do you feel that the problems with this set are inherent in the new LED technology, or is it just this Samsung?

Ditto!

Either way, in my eyes, this TV fails...

Phil,
I hear that the Samsung LED/LCD TV has a viewing angle of only 90 degrees is this correct and if so why has the technology gone backwards?

Does anyone know where I can get a list of recommended calibration settings for this TV?

Many thanks

Re: Video Review: Samsung UE40B6000 LED LCD TV

Hello you guys,

I want to share my experience with the UE40B6000. First of all, I have an analogic TV source for "Standard Definition" and I must say I was shocked with low quality of some TV channels display. But, in this particular case, I presume that the low quality of the signal is much responsible for the low quality that TV shows. I hope with a box tv-set with HDMI output from my cable supplier will improve somewhat SD quality.

Another thing that strongly annoied and bothered me, was the autodimming feature. Comming from a country, where all movies have subtitles, the autodimming feature is very appearant and noticeable, with low and high lights between dark sceens, depending if subtitles appear or not.
For that purpose, I CONFIRM, that I was able to turn off autodimming through the "service menu". The option is Advanced (than press the 0 button 4 times), choose CE Dimming, and I've turned it off for Standard and Movie. (How to access to Samsung service mode, is available on the AVForums also)

Well, the drawback of turning off autodimming, is that in full black scenes, you can see some light comming from the led's, what I mean, is that its not fully black. However, I prefer this way, which in contrast with the autodimming feature, is not noticeable most of the times.

In overrall, I was expecting more, especially for SD definition, but like i said, I presume if from the signal quality. Its my first full HD tv, so I need to get used to it. I haven't played any games yet, since Im waiting for the PS3 Slim

Cheers,
Miguel

As has been said a few times, the service menu option does not switch off the auto dimming entirely, as said in the review it still dims (we fully check these things and report back) when using a regulate test pattern (one which flashes and has solid lines to the sides).
Switching CE Dimming to off does reduce the effect somewhat, but it is still there and has to be as that is how the backlight is dimming the image to produce black. Interestingly the LG LCD I am testing at the moment is exactly the same.

Re: Video Review: Samsung UE40B6000 LED LCD TV

With the CE Dimming set to off on movie and game mode,
and black tone set to off in advanced settings in movie mode
there is no picture dimming at all unless the screen is completely
black as far as i can see.

Hopefully with this a proper isf calibration can be done.

Hi

A couple of questions for you if you don't mind as I'm considering buying this TV...

What are your thoughts now?
What is the gameplay like with a PS3? I've heard something about input lag??!
Would you buy this tele again?
