Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Thanks Phil, excellent job on the production! Even though it's pretty uncomfortable watching myself, you've edited out most of my really numpty moments, thanks . Btw everyone, the IB boxes are 3/4 INCH ply & mdf, not 3/4 mm as I gaffed in the video .

Oh, and at now I know how the bat got to be under my chair .

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

All I can say is WOW, Phil methinks you could be had for animal abuse, not only did it drop from the beam..but then you kicked it.

Whilst I can't possibly compare myself with your fab Bat Barn setup, at the momement our house is literally being ripped out and reborn throughout, with a loft conversion, redesigned upstairs and an extention downstairs, new kitchen etc etc.

My home cinema (in what will be the new longer lounge) is having all of the cables in wall and also under the floor with 22 odd wall plates that will be positioned behind the two hi-fi racks.

Having said that it still won't compare with you superb dedicated cinema room...happy cinema-ing for many years to come.

Excellent video, The Barn looks fantastic and I haven't laughed so much at Phil's dubious acting skills for a long time!

Well done to all.

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Holy High-Deff Batman! (sorry someone was always going to say it).

That looks like a great home cinema, one to be rightfully proud off and a great way to start the Grand AV designs, personally I like the fact that you have managed to keep the feel of the barn and the beams, yet cram it with loads of high tech AV equipment, from first glance its only the screen that looks out of place (for a barn) and that I think is the best part of the build.

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

An excellent production, congrats to Mark and Phil

As commented before its great to see the barn in all its glory, the photo`s inspired us but the video really showed what dedication can achieve and made it all seem very real.

I sat their for 20 mins after the adverts waiting for the rest of it but nowt happened, has anyone else experienced this problem Oh! and I didn`t hear the familiar DTS HD MA audio pop from my 905 so looks like Mark might have solved that as well

I loved it and have just watched for a fourth time between the footie

Al

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

well done, all looks great. cant believe Phil killed the bat though!

only thing i think missing was impressions after watching the setup, but i guess maybe that wasnt what your video was about (which i find odd because after all that effort/money id want to know if it was really worth it)

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Guys,

First of all I have to thank Mark for letting us film it and forum member tfboy who did camera duties for most of the day. It was stepping into the unknown with this video so it was great to have someone like Mark who was keen to talk about his room.

As you can imagine there are a few restrictions placed on us for these productions. The important one is 16,000 frames or 10 minutes 39 seconds. This is the longest a video can be for the FLV player we use and 100MB for you tube. This means that it gets edited down like we have here, or spread over two or more videos. It's a tough choice to make and an even harder edit. It has taken me about 7 days solid to just edit the dialogue and presentation to the time limits. There are about 20 minutes of material sitting on the edit room floor which had to be chopped out. Again this is a tough choice to make. The way I have approached it is to leave people wanting to find out more, so they can then go and look at the build thread here. So ideally both work together.

I could do the full edit of all the material, but it would take a lot of time and we would only be able to release it in a WMV file, so that's the problem we have, plus most of the cut material is just Mark going through each bit of kit he has and some lines here and there in the conversations.

BTW, for this 10 minute video we filmed for about 6 hours in total.

One thing I think you should all wait for, is the Xmas blooper reel video for this year, I guess there will be plenty of material filmed at Marks' which makes that video.

Thanks again for the positive comments and we will start the search for the next victim.......eh sorry volunteer.

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Great video and good start to Grand AV designs.

Sadly even liked the kicking the bat bit.

Would also like to have seen some of the film footage. But I guess that would not translate well and do the install justice.

Of course well done to Shockabuku too.

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Wow Phil, when you said you needed time to put it together, I wasn't expecting it to be so soon

What can I say? Great job , and despite the 6 hours or so filming, it was great fun . And even though I knew about the bat falling, I still fell over laughing so it has to be a success. Can't wait for the Crimbo blooper edit, knowing one or two possibilities

I also really like the way the edited version has explained in brief the overall aspect, but how some areas are only mysteriously mentioned. I guess the time limit kind of forces a lot of stuff to be left behind, but it just adds to the mysteriousness and keeps some of Mark's secrets unrevealed

It's amazing to see a set up like this, particularly in relation to the £150k high end set up in one of the other productions.

I hope Phil & the team continues to visit forum members' homes.

Well done everyone, keep it up.

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Excellent feature, well done to all concerned .

Ive read through most of the original thread for the bat barn and its nice to see a video of it. Its good to see a "real" installation although I doubt theres much chance of me ever getting subs quite like that.

Yep, I totally agree. I think this is a great way to get the Av Forums community involved, and I think the interest already shown demonstrates there's an appetite for features like these. I know I'm certainly looking forward to seeing more real world setups & getting to know some more forum members .

Not really, but prolonged uses most likely will make you nauseous and sick
It's not as "in your face" as traditional sub setups, and everyone says that IB setups sound different, and having now heard (or is it felt it ), I can see what IB specialists mean

It certainly does slam, but at a depth and control you could only dream of. Understated but omnipresent and ever-powerful, just like it should be

Re: Grand AV Designs, The Bat Barn

Very nice set up and thanks for sharing it with us. I love the way the bass units have been plumbed in. Great to see innovation in our home cinema's.

Enjoy!
