Re: IFA 2009 - Onkyo NR5007, SC5507 and more

Hi Phil,

The amp looks interesting, I take it the 9.2 alludes to 9 channels of amplification and are they Digital like some of the newer amps we have been seeing lately? It would certainly be interesting if Onkyo produced a 'cool' product for a change (pun intended)

Do you have any specs on the amp at all?

Cheers,

Adam

Re: IFA 2009 - Onkyo NR5007, SC5507 and more

Interesting that the Onkyo receiver Phil is speaking about has no lid on it. Maybe that was to cool it down more

Must say that the power amp looks kinda 'mean' with that blue light on the fascia. I wonder if the blue light can be turned off in a similar way to the volume control light on the processor. The amp is a very nice match for the processor visually i must say.

Phil, you said it is a '9.2' amp. Does this mean it has 11 channels of amplification? (for Audyssey DSX systems?)

Onkyo seem to be holding nothing back when it comes to features and spec on their new range. Chances are they will also be very well received.

It was a dummy box on display and there were no hard details available. However we will bring you the full specs and details as soon as they are known.

Question Re: IFA 2009 - Onkyo NR5007, SC5507 and more

I have just purchased the SC5507 on the basis that it has all the features known to AV science and I have also bought Adam near field studio monitors
(active with 350 watts of amplification per speaker).
I intend buying a denonBT2500 blue ray transport and later 2x1000watt Adam
12in subwoofers.(700watts rms two main speakers+3x250watts centre +rears)
All this has been done without auditioning a single item in the set up.
I bought the Onkyo because it has gold plated xlr outputs to match the inputs of my powered speakers.
My knowlege of AV systems is almost non existent and I would be grateful for anyone with esoteric knowlege of the same to let me know if the £5000 I have already spent could have been better spent?
All this should be up and running in two weeks.
I'll let you all know if my experiment is successful.

It's up and running and performs very well!
I'm about to purchase a media centre(computer with 1.5 terabytes) to store my blue ray and cd archive.
I saw one in Germany (Sonavis);but it's 6000 euro;and after some searching I found a firm here in Ireland offering the same features for 3000 euro.
All should be up and running come end of january.
