Question Should I upgrade my SKY scarts?

I've just bought a Toshiba 36ZP38B picture frame TV to complement my Toshiba RD-XS30SB DVD recorder. I also have a SKY stb (not SKY+) and a basic Samsug mono video (used to play kids tapes). TV has built in Dolby Digital so don't intend bothering with separate amp.
DVD has S-video in/out, composite red/white/yellow audio/video in/out and 2 scart (RGB scart out BUT NOT IN! ).
TV has 3 scart (inc. 1 RGB), component YUV video input, separate optical audio and coaxial audio inputs. Also has fixed audio output (?).
SKY stb (Panasonic) has 2 scart out and separate red/white audio connections.
I've connected DVD>TV using good quality 9 pin scart and coaxial audio cables. SKY is connected to DVD and TV using scarts that came with stb.
Question: given the apparent lack of a component or RGB conection for either SKY>DVD or SKY>TV is it worth upgrading the SKY scarts that came with the stb?

Claret i thought you DVD-R did have component inputs? if so the an RGB>YUV converter using good Scart Profigold Ixos QED etc and component cables will reduce noise but a huge difference wont be apparent on a 36"

Hi again. Don't think the DVD has component - no YUV input like on Tosh TV. DVD does have R/W/Y but thought that was worse than scart? Current set up looks good but wondered in circumstances if replacing scarts that came with SKY with QED, IXOS etc would make things even better.

Wow wow wow... The Toshiba 36ZP38 and 32ZP38 have TWO RGB inputs. I know, I've got one of those! I agree that quite a few retailers get this information wrong but check on the Toshiba website (or in your manual!) and you'll see two of the SCARTs are RGB (Scart #1 and Scart #2 I believe).

Yeah you're right. Website does say 2 RGB scarts - but doesn't say which! I guess it must be ext 1 and Ext 2. Ext 3 seems to be s-video. Will try reconnecting tonight. Any thoughts on scarts provided by SKY?

Claret

Sorry for jumping in but I'm hoping you can help.First off I must apologise as I am a complete novice to all the tech language used so any help in the simplist terms would be appreciated.Looking thro the forum noticed your query regarding cables was similar to mine. The equipment I have just bought seems similar to yourself so was hoping to pick your brains. Last week received Toshiba 36ZP38 package including SD-230E DVD and video. Installers used cables that were from my previous tv??? So trying to connect all up to Panasonic Sky digibox. Connected speakers that are supplied with tv but cannot get full dolby sound in that tv internal speakers do not work with front speakers as described on page 17 of manual. Currently just one scart lead going from dvd to tv. Could you confirm specifically as to which cable I need for this and also what would I need connected to the sky box to allow for full dolby. Could not follow previous replies you have had as as I said at the begginning I have no idea to the tech terms so above my head( my apologies). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Its great for the ego to be considered an 'expert', especially after only a week of dipping my toe in the ocean that is AV. But sorry ELFKAL there's no way I'm qualified to be giving anyone advice. I'm still struggling to sort out component from composite! I found the advice from Hornydragon very helpful - you might want to check out his advice on the following thread: AV hardware:video> TV-direct view &rear projection>"another cable connection query" posted by me on 10 October. (Sorry I don't know how to enter a direct link - shows how technically minded I am!) I also found the hificables website very useful for background info. Check out www.hificables.co.uk/dvd_cabling.htm
and if you do decide to buy quality cables they delivered mine within 18 hours of placing the order.
There's also a very nice chap, John Mason (TheBoingoBandit), who will provide detailed, idiot proof (and I mean idiot proof!) connection instructions for most equipment. Check out pages 4 and 5 of thread: AV Forums > AV Hardware : Video > Televisions - direct view and rear projection CRT > Help for a Newbie
Hope this helps. Once you get it up and runnung its a great TV. Good luck.
