rgb ntsc 16:9 problem

instead of describing the problem i've made two pictures with my digicam.. look at the right side of the screen:

this is only occurs with ntsc dvds with rgb on at 16:9 (or 4:3 zoomed).. doesn't matter if i output the ntsc as ntsc or pal60 with my dvd-player...

when i play a pal dvd or disable rgb everything is fine..

setup:

philips 28pw6006
panasonic dvd-s75

anyone any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?

Do you mean the patterning/beating? I think this is often caused by another piece of equipment interfering with the signal. Do you have your scart lead looped through anything like a vcr or digibox - if so make sure that it is switched off.

Or it could even be a dodgy scart lead - try replacing/swapping it.

That's about the limit of my knowledge on this

i mean the vertical light bar at the right..
all the other stuff is caused by the pic...

That looks like the TV is overscanning to too great an extent when showing RGB, and the electron beam is reflecting off the tube edge (inside) back onto the phosphors. As to whether it is adjustable.......well I'd assume so, via a service menu, but I couldn't say how.

can't really see the problem from the picture but i have the 32inch pw6006 and i get light vertical bars in any format(16:9,4:3 etc.) with any input on both sides, if the picture is a kind of sandy or foggy type picture and other people on this forum do also. i think this is what you mean.

Hi Lev,

I have the same problem on my Grundig 32" Widescreen TV. I have darker bar on the left and a lighter bar on the right. I think it happens as Nigel described.

The right bar is not on the visible part of my screen but I came to know about it when I reduced the horizontal width setting on my TV's geometry settings to make everything visible.

But the dark left bar is visible. A technician came at my home and the only thing that he did was to increase the horizontal width, thus losing another part of the picture, something I could have done myself.

What I have done is I adjusted the geometry settings and found a compromise between convergence and width so that the visibility of the dark bar is reduced.

Let me know in case the problem is solved as I am losing about 8% of the picture.

it seems a lot of tv's suffer from this but in most cases it isn't visible due to overscan..

theonly thing i don't understand is y i only get it with ntsc movies and rgb enabled..

y not with pal or rgb off?

Hi Lev,

I get it in both PAL and NTSC and in all formats (RGB, S-Video).

What is most probably happening in your case for NTSC is that in RGB there is a slight shift to the left, therefore it is not visible for other video modes and due to the RGB shift it starts to show.

As for the difference in PAL and NTSC, it could be that the PAL picture is wider than NTSC and therefore also in PAL, the defect is outside the visible part of the screen.
