Connecting Set Top Box with no scart socket on t/v

I am a new comer to this forum so I am not sure if I am in the right section. So please bear with me and if necessary point me in the right direction.

I have a very old T/V 26" screen and still a beautiful picture!! I want to connect a freeview box but have no scart socket on the t/v.

I bought a Simz stb 5660 from Asda and connected the video to the STB box with a scart lead then fed the incoming aerial through the STB box and back to the video.
The t/v still works OK and I tried to tune in via a spare button but I cannot find any signal that might be from the STB box.

Anyone else with a hint?

you need a freeview box with an rf output. have a read of the manual, your one might have one but it might be switched off in the menu.

Very few Freeview STBs have an RF modulators these days so they cannot be tuned in via the TVs tuner.
Connect as follows...
Aerial to STB Aerial in
STB RF Out to VCR Aerial in
VCR RF Out to TV Aerial in.
Scart lead from the "TV" Scart socket on the STB to the AV2 (it might be marked as "E2" or "EXT2" socket on the VCR.
Put your TV on the prog you use for the VCR so it is displaying a signal.
Using your VCRs remote select the AV2/E2/EXT2 input and with the STB switched on you should be able to see it and select the installation menu.
All Freeview viewing/recording can only be done via the VCRs AV input so it must be left on this input.

Re: Connecting Set Top Box with no scart socket on t/v

Here I am again with an update!!
I have tried the STB with another t/v that has a scart socket and get the same result, "No Signal".
This time no VCR was involved so at this moment in time it looks as though the STB has a fault.
Will try the Help line at Asda on Monday.
Many thanks to all of you for your efforts.

Re: Connecting Set Top Box with no scart socket on t/v

Is your aerial/reception good/strong enough to recieve a digital signal to tune in the STB?

What you could do, providing you can get the STB to tune in channels, is;

Plug aerial cable into STB, then connect to a VCR using scart (scart FROM the STB going INTO the VCR). Then on the VCR, use a length of coax cable to go from the RF OUT to the RF IN on the TV. Now, with the STB and VCR on, and the TV on the channel you would watch a video on, set the VCR to it's AUX channel, and you should be able to see the STB picture!

Do you get the Freeview box installation menu to appear?

Re: Connecting Set Top Box with no scart socket on t/v

Ok guys, here is an update.
I have a very old T/V 26" screen and still a beautiful picture but without a scart socket on the t/v!!

I bought a Simz stb 5660 from Asda and connected my VCR to the STB box with a scart lead then fed the incoming aerial through the STB box and back to the VCR. The t/v aerial comes from the VCR output which actually seems to improve the picture.

After various adventures and after nearly throwing in the towel it now works beautifully. I set the STBox to AV2 on the T/V video channel.
Another bonus is that I have another three t/v's connected via an aerial amplifier and now the stations on the STB are available on the other t/v's.

Many thanks to all of you who helped me through this experience.
Regards Eric.
