CRT Philips 28PW6451 auto screen format

My first post - please forgive any errors.

I have a Philips 28PW6451. This set is equipped with automatic switching of screen format which recognises the appropriate signals transmitted with the programme to change screen format from, say, 4:3 to 16:9.

Now we have gone digital via a Humax PVR (V. good ), the screen format auto changes to a ratio which is not necessarily the best format for viewing certain channels, and I have to keep changing it back manually using the remote control.

My question is simple: Is there a way of disabling the auto-switching of screen format?

Re: CRT Philips 28PW6451 auto screen format

Set the digibox and the TV to 16x9 widescreen.
The set will then auto-switch aspect ratio correctly...16x9 if a true widescreen is being broadcast and 4x3 if a 4x3 prog is being broadcast...that's the way it's meant to be viewed.

Re: CRT Philips 28PW6451 auto screen format

Tried this, but Philips model has "Zoom 16:9" format. In this format ratio, the "i-plate" (programme information) at bottom of screen cannot be seen completely, so I have to manually change format to view the i-plate. If I change channels it always defaults back to "Zoom 16:9"

Try Widescreen. Auto should work (unlike the silly arrangement on my Philips); what is wrong when you set it to that? See also the manual for a feel of what each setting should do:

Re: CRT Philips 28PW6451 auto screen format

Widescreen shows all the necessary, but makes everyone look obese! In any case, the TV still auto-formats to Zoom 16:9.

I'm going to talk to Philips and ask them
