Philips 28" CRT - why is half the picture missing?!

Hi,

I've attached a picture of my screen - half of the picture is missing. There is just a horizontal band (about 40% of the screen height and 100% width) which is located in the bottom half of the screen.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and whether it would be expensive to have repaired? I can pick up another similar (or better) CRT on ebay for £20-£40 so it may not be worth it. Sorry I don't know the model off the top of my head [have now found it, see below] but I imagine the problem is not model-specific anyway.

Thanks,
Shep

Pity you dont have the model number as the chassis fitted to the set will have a bearing on the cost of the repair. What you have is a fault in the frame stage and could be caused by a number of things. Also repair costs vary depending on the area you live in but i think that you are unlikely to get any change out of £50 .00.

I've had a look now and the model number is 28DW9625. I live in Lincoln which is not normally an expensive area.

from techguy, if you have the tools and technical skills required,an investigation into the vertical scan section is required.--this is usually an integrated circuit, usually clipped onto a heatsink.also there may be other components such as electrolytic type capacitors, which may also require replacement/cause of i.c. failing--especially if one or more these elect capacitors are very close to a (very)hot heatsink.
