Selling CRT TVs

HAving recently upgraded to an LCD (Thanks to this forum!) I have two Sony CRTs (Model: Sony Trinitron KV28FX68) that are obviously a few years old, but still in A1 condition.

As there is really nothing wrong with them, is it worth selling them? Any idea on the prices expected?

Thanks!

Re: Selling CRT TVs

Best bet is to either give them away to friends or family, or stick on ebay and thing of any money as a bonus. I've just purchased a 50" KURO plasma to replace my 9 year old Philips 36" CRT widescreen. In 9 years it hasn't missed a beat. Originally cost me £1600 in year 2000. Searching on ebay I'll be lucky to get £70 for it, and no-one in I know wants it

Re: Selling CRT TVs

I agree with J90rdn I made the change to plasma a few years ago and I need to clear out 2 CRT's. My Loewe Articos 32 is still a stunning set and cost £2000 so ebay is my 1st port of call or the classifieds here. My other set is a 12 year old 29" Sony which is hard to give away.

Re: Selling CRT TVs

I've just bought a Sony Trinitron KV-28FX60U 100hz on ebay. I paid £35 but that was the seller's starting price and no-one else placed a bid. In an open auction I think it would have gone for less than that. There is some top quality CRT equipment going for peanuts on ebay as everyone upgrades to LCD/Plasma.

Re: Selling CRT TVs

Two options, imo.
Ebay, starting at 99p - my 28" Panny went over £30.
Freecycle if you're not worried about the money.

Re: Selling CRT TVs

3rd and 4th option:

Sell it on here or give it away on here, I'm sure there are people who would love a bigger CRT.

Re: Selling CRT TVs

If the TV is in good working order you can't be bothered with the hassle of eBay etc...you could contact a local Hospital or nursing home to see if they could take it for use in a day room or something!

Cheers.

Re: Selling CRT TVs

Also The Bristish Heart Foundation have shops that will take CRTs off your hands; they'll then sell it for about £30 after checking it out.

Check here to see if they ahve a local branch :

Try a "Wanted" thread on the Forum.

@ OP: I bought the exact same Sony from gumtree locally 3 months ago. My limited environmental conscience recommends against dumping it if it's in a good state; YMMV :-)

Re: Selling CRT TVs

As many have said its hard to sell a CRT nowadays. My 36" Panny PD30 would not sell at all even for well under £100. So I ended up giving it away to family. £1600 worth of TV

So I suggest you do that or donate it as suggested.

Re: Selling CRT TVs

Evening all ...

I had decided to give it away, either to charity or a forum member, but then I received a reply from my Gumtree advert!

A nice fella bought both of my TVs on Saturday afternoon, collected and paid £125 cash for both!

Re: Selling CRT TVs

I have just sold my Panny 36PL32 for £80 to a work mate, not bad really given most are just given away. I have one more Phillips 36 9525, but i still use this in my 2nd lounge. I have sold the panny because i have purchased a Panasonic 42'' x10 plasma. I am really loathed to get rid of the Phillips because the picture is so damm good. It's a sad day for the CRT world when £2000 tv's are just so much plastic junk.
